I've always been in love with piercing tattoos and body mods in general. Like a lot of other people on here, my love started as a child. Friday I turned 18 and I knew exactly what I wanted.

I decide one a pattern of six surface piercings right under my collar bone. My piercer (Dave) used tygon for these. To be honest I wasn't as scared as I thought I would be, but I knew my piercer a little better than just a walk in. Also my boyfriend was there with me to hold my hand (He has had a couple surface piercings before, and he reassured me that I could do it)

Preparations took a decent amount of time to do, since I was getting a pattern and not just one or two bars. After marking all the dots and wiping them off again several times, we decided that it looked straight and symmetrical.

Dave had me lay down so he had a better angle to pierce. He did a lot of poking, pinching, and prodding figuring out how deep and other such things. At this point I was a little bit nervous. (Though I had gotten the back of my neck pierced earlier that day, so I had a good idea of what was to come.) He told me to breath in and out deeply. On my exhale he started to push the needle though, and it hurt. Not unbearably so, but it wasn't very pleasant. Then came the second push, not quite so bad as the first but again not pleasant. It took a few more pushes then he told me we were on the way out. Coming out is more painful than going in, it almost has a 'pop' to it. To be honest it felt like pushing a large needle though a really dense fabric, but being on the receiving end. If you want a good idea of what I mean, get a big sewing needle and push it though leather. Dave had to use a thimble to help push it the needles though.

It was over fairly quickly, he pulled a taper and the tygon through, trimmed the tygon down a wee bit and put the ends on.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would probably give this a 4. But I got 5 more, including one that overlapped with another.

They all pretty much felt the same, a sharp burning-ish pain on the way in and a more painful pop on the way out. Unfortunately each one hurt more than the last. By the time I got to the 6th piercing it was pretty painful.

If anyone wants *a* surface piercing I would highly recommend it, one or two isn't so bad. Even more so if they are further apart. But after the 3 or 4th one it isn't very pleasant at all.

I've read up a lot on here and a lot of people posted that it was over quickly and didn't hurt much at all. I'd like to clarify that a bit. After the needles are though it barely hurts at all, its just a wee bit tender. It's a hole in your body, its going to hurt, don't think that it isn't going to. Also as I mention I got my nape done as well earlier so included that (7 piercings total in one sitting)it took almost 2 hours. Not trying to discourage anyone here or anything. But it is something to consider.

I have my nostril, ears (at a 00 and a 0), and nape pierced as well as my chest. I would put my gauges at best a 1, nose at a 2, my nape at a 4, and my chest work at as a whole at about an 7 or 8. The aftercare is much more tedious, but less painful than with any of my other piercings though. (3 showers with antibacterial soap a day)

I know this was a little bit more than a ramble here. In short, I love my chest work, its gorgeous! I would recommend getting a surface piercing to anyone. But if you want something a little more intricate, like mine. Consider the fact of if you stop half way in between it's going to look a wee bit odd, and each piercing ads 1 or 2 to the pain scale than the last one. But it is well worth it, if you really want them. Also its nice to have someone to keep your mind off of what is going on.

The best advice I can give for a piercing for this is to A) eat before hand of course. B) Ladies if you tan, stop for a little while. It makes your skin a little tougher. and C) Relax ,obviously, as hard as it may be. D) If you are bringing someone with you, have them drive you home, after the adrenaline runs out, you'll be pretty tired.
