About three months ago I went and got my first Surface Piercing. I had been contemplating getting my Nape Pierced for quite awhile. The only thing that ever stopped me were my parents. Anyway they said yes.

I had been researching Nape Piercings for a long time before I decided to get it done. What bar to get, aftercare, rejection, migration the whole lot. None of that phased me, if it rejects, I can get it done again

I drove down to the city with my cousin Emma, to get my Nape pierced. We went to the most reputable piercing place that we knew. We walked around inside first and checked out some of the gear they had, we asked questions about the piercing and we were told to come back in about 20minutes because they had someone with an appointment coming in shortly.

We left, and came back in 20 minutes. When we came back we talked to the piercer and told them what I wanted pierced. They said that was fine and she turned me around and felt my neck and was pinching it to make sure I could get it pierced. Everything was fine so he went and showed me the jewelery they use for their surface piercings. I got a proper surface bar as it can reduce the risk of rejection.

We walked into the room where I sat down and he marked out where on my Nape it would go. He showed me with the mirror and everything was good to go. He changed his gloves and got everything ready. I bent my neck forward as he grasped it and put the needle through. It was the weirdest feeling. It felt more tight than actual pain, I kept my neck forward as he put the surface bar in and screwed on the second ball. I didn't actually feel anything besides the tightness once the needle was through, I hadn't realized it was through till he had told me. He showed me what it looked like with the mirror and it looked awesome, sat totally flush with my skin and everything.

I started feeling a bit sick just because I had hyped myself up before hand and I was coming down from all the adrenaline. They gave me a booklet, discussed aftercare, paid and left. We went and got something to eat and went back home.

Sleeping on it didn't affect me at all. I hardly felt it, but, as a cautionary thing, try to sleep on your stomach for a while or at least fall asleep on your stomach so the piercing is less irritated. The one thing that irritated my neck would have been the tags on shirts catching the 2 balls. CUT THEM OFF.

For the next few days my neck was a bit stiff because I didn't want to move it all. I gave it regular sea salt soaks and cleaned it regularly. After about the first month it stayed quite red and the salts weren't helping at all. I was than told that mixing brown Listerine (mouth wash) and water helped heal piercings. I tried that out for a while and it calmed down a little but to no avail it stayed red.

I didn't clean it for about two days just because I got lazy and it really irritated my piercing. It become sore crusty and extremely red and was quite warm to touch. Also, I made sure to get it wet everyday so it reduced the amount of any hardened discharge.

At about the 8-10 week mark i started developing lumps around both the entry and exit holes, needless to say that freaked me out. I turned back to the sea salt soaks with little help. I than decided to get Tea tree oil. I had read on others experience's that it had helped. I used the tea tree oil 2 times per day for about 2 weeks and they got smaller significantly and the redness completely dissapeared. From using the Tea Tree Oil my neck started drying out. I started (about two days ago) using the tea tree oil once a day and it is still working.

Also, every so often I used chamomile tea bag soaks. Putting one bag in a cup of hot water. Letting it sit until its warm than putting it on your neck until its cold. Its refreshing and makes your Nape feel awesome.

The Nape piercings is a unique piercing, you get a lot of varied reactions from people. Most people think what the hell and look in disbelief, others think its great. If you like attention, get this piercing.

In conclusion getting your Nape Pierced is a great experience. If you do decide to get it done you have to be in it for the long run, babying it for 2months+.

Goodluck!
