I kinda always thought of myself as conservative until I decided I wanted to get my wrist pierced. I don't know what it was that attracted me to it, but I was compelled to get it done. I have always dressed a little more "normal" than really creative, but I always wanted to get something that was out of character - a conversation piece maybe. I enjoy the idea that you may know someone, but not entirely know them as well.

I went to Tommy T's Body Piercing in Huntington Beach 'cause a couple of my friends had piercings done there and were very pleased. Mind you I was still a little apprehensive about actually getting it done, even though I really really wanted it. I don't know why I get nervous about getting something I know I want. I guess that is just human nature. Anyway, I went in to ask some questions. The girl piercer was working that day, Lucy, and I had read good reviews about her on the internet. Also, she has a ton of piercings, so I felt I could trust her giving it to me straight. I asked her what type of jewelry would be used and she showed me the "Surface Barbells" which have angled ends on them. She explained that the jewelry is shaped that way so that it sits under the skin better and doesn't put stress on the piercing like a straight barbell would. She also explained that the metal was 316LVM Stainless Steel which is implant grade, so my body won't be irritated by it. This was one of my concerns when I was contemplating getting the piercing done. I had looked it up on the APP website and they said to only use implant grade metal for first time piercing. I could have gotten the barbell with gems in the balls as well, but I opted for the plain Stainless ones – there I go being conservative again right?

Next I was rung up and given my paperwork to fill out as well as my aftercare to heal it. I was still a little nervous, but it was slowly going away. I felt comfortable with the piercer which is important, I was going to be pierced with the correct jewelry which is even more important. Everything was going to be okay! When everything was ready, I was lead into the parlor, which is so white it is unbelievable. It looks like a doctor's office, which is good, and a little odd at the same time only because people never really want to go to the doctor. I would have been scared if the parlor didn't remind me of a doctor's office. I have seen some pretty nasty places and Tommy T's is definitely not one of them. I was seated with my knees and feet together and she cleaned off a large section of my wrist with some yellow soapy looking stuff. After a little while it was wiped off and then she began to mark where it was to go. She took a couple of times to mark it so it was perfect. She washed her hands, put on gloves and then we were ready to go. She clamped my wrist and pierced it! I kid you not it only took a second. I was completely amazed. Here I was thinking that it was going to be this big dramatic thing and it was nothing! Aside from it being virtually painless, it looked awesome, too. All you could see was the 2 balls at the ends of the piercing and the barbell was completely under the skin. It was a perfect fit, not too tight and not too loose. Lucy told me to go have a seat on the couch to rest for a little bit and then I was free to go. I sat down and I couldn't stop staring at it. I couldn't believe it was actually there on my wrist - how cool is that? I know that my friends who are pierced will be proud of me for finally doing it. Maybe I'll get something else pierced, who knows! I hear it can be addictive, and if it was that easy I'm sure I could handle getting another one. I think I'll have to go for something more hidden next time as I want to remain somewhat inconspicuous.

I am definitely glad that I went ahead and did it. For anyone who is contemplating getting his or her wrist pierced, do it! If you live in Southern California go get it done at Tommy T's. I couldn't be more happy with how the piercing turned out and with their professionalism and how clean their shop is.

Now walking around with my wrist pierced...I guess I'm not as conservative as I thought!
