I hadn't ever really considered getting my nape pierced before last weekend. See, the whole idea started when my friend decided to get her nipples pierced. I, of course, wanted to get a needle through something while we were in the studio, but I have a very limited choice due to my work. My first choice would have been a vertical labret but of course at work we aren't aloud any facial piercings and only one set of earrings. We talked over my options and decided that a nape piercing would be really different and the easiest to get away with at work as I can cover it with my pony tail.

I had been quite pre-occupied all week long and before I knew it, it was saturday and we were due to go get stabbed. I drove us to the studio and I was totally numb the whole way. I suppose it just hadn't sunken in yet because all the other piercings that I've wanted have gotten put off for one reason or another (this was my first non-ear piercing) I didn't even know if I was going to so it for sure or not. As we got closer my nerves got slightly worse, but nothing compared to what they would be in a mere 30 minutes.

We walked into Anubis and my friend walked straight up and got her papers etc. I, on the other hand, babbled nervously at my friends trying to get them to convince me to go through with it. Finally right before we went in the back to watch my friend get her nipples pierced I got my papers and paid. I watched him get out all sterile equipment and change his gloves between practically everything that he touched. I wish I could remember his name because he was really nice and he was very calming. There was also a really cool picture of buddha on the ceiling above the chair that made me feel slightly more at ease. (Although he explained to us after my friend's piercing that it was there because they had just painted one wall red and a bunch of the paint had splattered in that particular spot. Now that would be fun to see, wouldn't it?) Amanda made it through her nipple piercings very well, only making a few whimpering sounds. That gave me a bit more confidence. If she can do bot h nipples I can do my neck once, right?

I turned in my paper work and then went outside to chatter with amanda and her boyfriend who were smoking a cig. When they were done I gathered all of my confidence and went to have a seat in the chair. With my cheerleaders watching over me with their big grins I hopped in the chair and got ready. He explained the jewelry a little and cleaned me up. I was surprised at how quickly he got me marked. It only took one try. He had me get up to look at it in the mirror and I told him that I thought it looked good but that it was harder for me to tell sue to the direction I had too look at it. Amanda took a quick look at it for me and everyone agreed that it looked pretty damn perfect. I sat back down in the chair and then it was time for the clamps. Those were enough to make me clench a little but he reassured me that they would be worse than the actual piercing, and he was almost right. I was instructed to breathe in deep once then out again. Once more deep breath in and I felt t he needle pushing at one side, slide through the middle, and then with a little harder push at the end, it was out. I opened my eyes and looked at my friends. I was done! I didn't even feel the jewelry going in. He made sure that I got an aftercare sheet and told me that If I had any questions that I should call or stop back in.

All in all it was a great experience. If you are thinking about getting your nape pierced but are afraid it will hurt too much, go get it!! It is painful, I wont deny that (About a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1-10) but the pain only lasts for seconds and If all goes well the piercing can last you for years. I've gotten mixed reactions from mine. Most of the adults think that it is strange, or really painful looking and most of the younger people think that it is very different and interesting. I've found myself going out an awful lot now to show it off. I practically jump everyone I know to show them before they get a chance to notice it on there own. I really really adore my shiny new balls!
