I had been thinking about an outer labial piercing or two for quite some time. I find them very cute a lot of the time. Plus, the fact that they're hidden, and I have to keep my parents pleased with my others, made me think it was a good idea.

They didn't have the diameter of rings I wanted, so I thought I'd get two 14 gauge curved barbells anyways. I was already there, so what was the point in leaving empty handed?
I was pretty excited about doing them, and wanted to that night. Unfortunately, my mom didn't go to sleep forever, and I thought that it would be a good idea to do it a time when I would have no interruptions. So I waited until morning.
I have never jumped out of bed so quick. I got up, turned on some music and washed my hands and my... self. I had shaved it all the night before, too. I came back to my room and got out my gloves, needles, clamps, alcohol swabs, jewelry, a marking pen, and a small mirror. I put some gloves on, and swabbed the area clean again. I positioned myself [awkward.] and the mirror to have a clear view of marking and piercing. Marking it at the right spot, and having them even on both sides proved to be more difficult than I had thought it would be. Eventually, I had good marks to where they would be comfortable, straight, and the jewelry wouldn't sink in or anything. I lined up the clamps and put a rubber band around the handle to keep them in place. I don't know if I'd say the clamps hurt very badly,but it was definitely and new and interesting feeling. I opened a needle, put a little bit of lubricant on it, and pushed. Maybe it was the adrenaline, or maybe it was my poor memory, but it didn't hurt too bad at all. Soon enough the needle was through, and I followed it with the jewelry and screwed the ball on tight. I would not be happy to lose the ball and have that one fall out. I cleaned it up and went to start on the second one.
Marking this one and making it even to the other one was a lot harder than I thought it would be. It took me about 15 more minutes. By the time I clamped it and had another needle to pierce it, I had no adrenaline left to go through it again. It seemed like it hurt a lot more. I decided to wait until the next morning to do the second one. I threw away all my used supplies and got rid of both needles, and walked to school like a cowboy.
I was so excited that I had just done one, and I couldn't wait to do the second one. So the next morning comes and I am determined. Marking it again was the almost the worst, but I wasn't going to settle for anything less than perfectly even. As I'm piercing it, I'm shaking and having to stop myself from screaming. I really don't know why this one hurt so bad, but like I said - I was determined. Eventually the needle came through and I got the jewelry in and cleaned up. This one stayed sore for most of the day, too.
Every morning I take a measuring cup [I stole it from the kitchen, and no, I am not returning it. Even if it goes through the dishwasher, that's just a bit weird to me.] and mix up a saltwater soak in it. I stand in my bathtub without pants on and hold it there for about 3-5 minutes. I try to swish it around and get it all around the piercings. Then I take some Q-Tips and swab all the new-piercing gunk off and get it all clean. So far it has been working really well. They only stayed sore for about three days and only now when I press on them. Or get them pressed on.
When I take showers I rinse them off with the warm water and that seems to work nicely. Also, it wasn't as hard to shave around them as I thought it would be. It still is a bit tricky, though.
Some other things:
Simple things like sitting to pee is a little different, possibly because of the placement. Or lying on my stomach some certain way. Small things like that I've noticed I have to change slightly to accomodate them. Going commando isn't very comfortable for the time being, I'm not sure why. And in a mosh pit, no matter where your new piercing is, it will get hit.
I take it easy on the sexual action part of it. I make sure they aren't touched much, but I've broken the rules a couple times on that one. And I always clean them right afterwards.
I pierce myself often, and have a lot of experience doing so. I use professional equipment and am only performing them on myself. If you want to pierce yourself, going to a professional is really your safest choice.
