I'm a nineteen year old college student studying Environmental Health at Purdue University. I grew up in a small town, you know, one where they bus kids from about six other towns together to attend one school. Being a small town, I was raised conservatively and going off to college was to be a life changing experience. My freshman year I began researching piercing and tattooing and got my nipples pierced. The summer after, a friend went with me to get my hood pierced in Fort Wayne (the closest big city to my home town). That experience in itself was altering, but was nothing compared to the piercing that I'll be talking about in this story.

Anyways, my sophmore year I went into the West Lafayette Tattoo Emporium to get my nostril pierced and soon after that I began thinking about getting an apprenticeship to learn to pierce. I talked to the owner of the shop, Sid, in January and agreed to come in a few days a week and be a floorwalker. Being a floorwalker introduced me to more piercings and gave me the opportunity to get free work done. So I began doing research once again, looking for an out of the ordinary genital piercing (I still have to hide my tattoos and piercings from mom and dad when I go home). At the shop we carry a piece of jewelry called and ear spiral which is made to go around the rim of the ear and one day I got to thinking that one might look cool in my labia. I talked to Sid about a week later about doing it; he said he had never heard of doing that, and never done such a piercing obviously, but agreed to do it if I trusted him. Sid has been in the body modification business for years a nd has a lot of experienced so I agreed.

We set a time aside on a Sunday when the shop was usually on the slow side. I decided to have a three-spiral piece put on each of my outer labia and to do them both at once so I wouldn't chicken out and decide not to go through with it the second time. Sid estimated that the procedure would take about two hours from start to finish because a lot of measurements were involved, including the spacing between the spirals, the depth, and etc.

The day came along and I was extremely nervous, I asked him about the difference in pain between getting a hood versus a labia piercing, but him, being male, could only tell me that it was a "different" sensation. We made our way into the piercing room; he, I, and a girl that was to assist him and/or me throughout the procedure. He began by cleaning the area with providone iodine two times and set up his supplies while the iodine was drying. Next, he made measurements and marked me with gentian violet. It took about one hour to do all the measurements and place twelve tiny violet marks on my labia. When he finished, he handed me a hand-held mirror to look at the markings, letting me know he would continue to show me the area at various points during the procedure because I needed to be informed if I was to become a piercer one day.

After this, the actual piercing part was to begin. He started at the top on the right side of my labia, clamped the area, asked me to take a deep breath and let it out and slid the needle though during my breath out. The feeling wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't nearly as painful as my hood piercing. He put corks on each side of the needle and asked if I was all right. I told him to continue and that I would be all right. As the piercing went on, the pain increased gradually with each hole, but by the fourth of fifth hole, I had enough adrenaline rushing through me that the piercing felt like a pinch and my legs were shaking in the metal stirrups on the table.

Once all the piercings were done and the corks were in place, he again handed me the mirror for me to look. The site was not a pretty one, I was covered in iodine and a large amount of blood, with six needles and twelve corks surrounding my vaginal opening, but it was exhilarating to know that I was almost done. Next, Sid proceeded to put the jewelry. In all honesty, I think this part hurt the worst. My guess for this is that my labia were swollen and obviously metal was once again being slid through a fresh piercing. This part of the procedure was the only time I made a noise and gripped onto the table, but I soon became accustomed to the feeling of the twisting of the metal and relaxed. He finished, screwed the balls onto the spirals, cleaned me up a bit and had me dress.

I was instructed to clean my new piercings with castile or physoderm soap three times a day and to be sure to rinse with saline to get rid of all the soap and promote fast healing of the tissues. Total healing time was to be about three months and I was to refrain from sex for a month and use a condom during intercourse for the duration of the healing time. This also meant to oral sex because of the high risk of infection from saliva. I walked really funny for about three days and the piercings bled for a few days as well, so I wore a pad. I found that taking ibuprophen every day for the first week helped with the soreness and the swelling and avoided sleeping on my stomach.

Now the piercings are healed and they look amazing! I'm so glad I endured the pain and aftercare because everyday I look down and realize that I have a truly unique piercing done by one of the best piercers I have ever met.
