The Beginning

Now by this time I was not new to body mods as I had pierced my nipple and navel in 1998. As with all body mods, genital piercing is somewhat addictive so after my hood and inner labial piercings, I decided to go for something I had wanted forever... a fourchette. The fourchette piercing intrigued me. It was discreet, pretty and very sensual looking, all tucked away in a nice little nook. So now it was September 2002, I was about to turn 24 and I just HAD to get my fourchette! I was excited and I proceeded to do some research about the possible risks, complications, etc. It surprised me that there wasn't a lot of information about this piercing on BME or elsewhere on the internet. It's a shame, for such a pretty piercing, not many women seem to have it.
Concerns
After doing thorough research, I discovered that the piercing was usually prone to migration and eventual rejection. Also, the piercing is anatomy dependent and not all women are good candidates, in fact a very small percentage are! The anatomy didn't quite concern me, as I knew that although I have a small vagina, I have that extra little flap of skin. That made me happy. What concerned me was the risk of migration and rejection. I'm the type of person that becomes attached to my piercings and could never bear to part with any of them, especially the fourchette! I had already planned the jewellery I was going to wear when it was healed!
The Next Step
I decided that because of the lack of information I had, I shouldn't get all hairy about it but instead, I should talk to a piercer about the possibilities. So I did... The first piercer I went to see was great. She told me that her only concern about the fourchette was the proximity of it to the asshole and due to that fact, there was concern about possible infection. And, it would be her first fourchette. Therefore, she was not comfortable doing it yet.
So, I decided to wait a little and maybe get another opinion. October rolled around and by this time I was still looking at pictures here on BME of fourchettes and dreaming of the that when I would have my own to play with and decorate. By this time, my fiancée also grew fond of the piercing and we both sat a contemplated the possibilities.
I decided to get that second consultation and I'm glad I did! I definitely did have the bits to do it and migration or rejection shouldn't become a problem in the future. I decided to go ahead with it. Sure it was going to put me out 140$ but it was well worth it and I had waited long enough! The piercer told me he would pierce me at 12 gauge with a captive bead ring. WHAT!!! A captive bead ring??? I wanted a curved barbell. Besides, I'd heard that captive bead rings tend to speed migration! But regardless what I said, he explained to me that it would be the best starter jewellery for me. So, I trusted him...
The Procedure
The preparation seemed so complex. Up until the part where I pulled my pants and panties off, hopped on the chair and spread my legs really wide! He must have changed his gloves 20 times. Unwrapped the equipment from the sterile packages, too out the ring fro the sterile package and finally, pulled out that large, shiny needle from its package.
Then he asked me if I would prefer him to do it freehand or if I wanted the clamps to be used. I had never had anything done freehand, so I was a little apprehensive about that. But... he told me that in his opinion, he could get a better grip and manoeuvre better freehand. The only thing was that it would take 3 seconds to pierce instead of 1, if I chose freehand. CONTEMPLATION... After about a 2-minute deliberation, I said do it freehand. So we did. No clamps = less pain! He began to disinfect the area and Oooh!!! That was cold! Then he prodded a bit to find the right location. Finally, it was time... He told me to take three deep breaths and on the third exhale he would pierce. One... Two... THREE! That's it...? A small pinch!? It really was quite painless.
Once the actual piercing was done, it was time for jewellery insertion, which was taking longer than usual. It seems that there were two problems: 1) While trying to thread the ring in with the taper, the two came apart so the hole was lost. He had to essentially re-pierce it to get the ring through! Ow! Then when it was finally in and the bead was on, I took a look at it and it look shallow. There wasn't much more than ¼ inch of skin in there!
Dissatisfied, I paid but left no tip.
Healing
Oh yeah, it healed great but migrated within 2 months.
Determined...
After taking it out and waiting a little while, I decided to get it re-done by another piercer. This time, it hurt like hell because of the scar tissue that had formed from the last one. Luckily, we placed it just behind the scar tissue so that the chances of it migrating again would be significantly reduced. And I got to do it with a 12g titanium curved barbell!!! YAY!
Healing Part 2:
One to two sea salt soaks a day for the first month. After that I was free!!! No sex for 2 weeks... OOPS! Oh well.
Last Word
If you're considering it, do it! It's by far my favourite piercing, pain is minimal and pleasure is maximal. It is a sensual piercing and I'll be enjoying it over and over again! ;)
