This was done in eighth grade when I was a much much younger girl, so bear with me because the details are a bit fuzzy, but the pain I most definitely remember.

I don't know what made me want to pierce my labia, or how I convinced myself that it was a smart idea to pierce something like that without the proper cleaning of supplies and sterilization, but nonetheless here is the tale of my inner labia late night home piercing experience. (just for the record, DON'T do what I did. Come on, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that piercing one's genitalia at home isn't the safest thing to do)
So, here's how it went. One night while sitting around I thought it would be neat to have a piercing "down there", plus I figured it would do something for my sex life (the boys had to like it, right?) so I got all the supplies together which included a safety pin, lighter, and rubbing alcohol. I proceeded to clean the area with rubbing alcohol and ran the flame from the lighter over the safety pin for a little while. Then I got myself a little area set up on my bedroom floor complete with towel to sit on and proper lighting (a lamp..haha) so I could see what I was doing and wouldn't end up piercing something more sensitive and vital.
After cleaning off the safety pin, I bent it so that it was straight. Then I sat down on the towel, spread my legs, and aimed the light. I decided on the right labia since I am right handed and I figured that it wouldn't be as awkward to pierce. To start off, I marked where I wanted to pierce with a sharpie (about the center) and lined up my needle with the marking. I started to push a little bit and tears welled up in my eyes. Despite shooting pain and a runny nose, I kept pushing. It didn't take too much pushing (but it took me at least 10 minutes to get up the courage to do all that pushing) in order to get it through since the skin there is very very thin. When it did go through there were a few pretty loud popping noises in a row as the layers of skin were pierced.
For a couple minutes, I just sat there with the needle in and my legs spread. What WAS I thinking?!?!? I couldn't believe that I'd just put a hole in THAT. Nonetheless, I figured I would go ahead and get some kind of jewelry in it since I had pierced it and I really shouldn't let a good piercing go to waste. I found a tiny gauge barbell that I had been wearing in my ears and decided that would do. So, I took the needle out and tried to get the jewelry in. Of course, it wouldn't go in. Turns out that I had pierced it at a very weird angle, not straight at all and I was finding it very difficult to get the jewelry in at that angle. About 20 minutes and a GREAT deal of pain later, I had it in. I was proud.
The next day I can't even begin to explain how painful it was to urinate (the pee got in the piercing whenever I went). It was honestly the worst pain I've ever felt, aside from child birth and obviously was infected. Stupidly, I kept the jewelry in and just rode the pain out for a month or two. Whenever I sat I felt a shooting pain as well which wasn't fun at all.
I don't know how, but eventually the piercing healed and it was no longer difficult to go to the bathroom and no longer painful to sit down. I took it for a test ride and it turned out to not be as sexually pleasing as I thought it would. As a result, a couple months later I decided to take the piercing out because I had decided that it was unconventional and not very pretty.
Now here I am, years later, and the piercing still has not closed up. From time to time, I put jewelry in it for my hubby, but I normally do not have anything in. There's a little scar tissue on the labia, but nothing distracting or unattractive.
So in the end, would I do it again? There's no way I would. It was just too painful for way too long afterwards, and it doesn't do anything to heighten my sexual experiences. But by now it's too late so I guess I'll just have to live with it :]
And for the record, I definitely would NOT recommend doing what I did to anybody. Who knows what could happen if the infection didn't clear up like mine did, so seriously, don't test your luck!
