About six months ago, I decided that I really wanted my labia minora pierced- I had done my research and seen pictures, and knew that these were the ones for me! I went and bought two straight barbells - both gold ( Was sorely tempted by the pretty sparkely ones on street stalls everywhere, but the sensible side of me decided it was not a good idea to stick these through any body part at all, least of all something which would be so nasty if infected!)
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When Six months ago As I was one of the first people in our 'group' of friends to have any kind of body mod experience (i also have my tongue, navel and three in each ear)I did not know any piercing studios in the area by recommendation, except my friend Spider, who was qualified and had done this kind of thing before (also my tongue and navel- the ears were done a long time ago before I moved, and one got infected almost immediately after it had been pierced there so understandably I did not particularly want to go back to that studio), so I decided Spider was my man!
It was a bit awkward when I first approached him and asking was very embarrassing too - if he had said no I would have been mortified, but he was cool with it, acting as a professional and as we were so close but not in a sexual way (thank goodness-complications!) it wasn't a great deal. I went to his apartment and was thankful he didn't have the usual beer swilling friends sitting around watching as I lay spread-eagled and terrified. I mentally checked everything was done properly - he used a new needle, sterilised everything, shaved and cleaned the area (really quite disproportionately embarrassing!) and wore gloves. I kept reassuring myself that he saw millions of (ok maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but maybe several) labia a day and was not at all concerned with this being me laid out on his kitchen floor, and that failed to calm me down at all! I was sure he was perving at me!
The getting undressed from the waist down and spreading my legs was worse than the actual piercings! He put clamps on my left labia first, talking to me about random things like big brother and Puff Daddy to keep me distracted, and I didn't even see the needle coming first time - the pain was no problem. I told him how little it had hurt (compared to what I was expecting) and he warned me that, although that was good it did not hurt as much as I'd expected at first, the second one might hurt more because the area was now more sensitised and I would not be expecting it to hurt at all. Not sure if his reasoning was right, but it sure did hurt more the second time! He clamped it- fine, and pushed the needle through- also fine, but then he had great trouble getting the jewellery through, and it slipped about quite a bit - that hurt more than the actual needle, but once it was done it was totally worth it - they are now perfectly equal on both sides, and because of how they are placed, it just looks like two balls either side.
Of course afterwards, all my friends wanted to know what it was like; both the experience and the finished end result, and I told them, but what really got me was how many people (sometimes relative strangers) wanted to see them! These studs are for me and maybe my elected partner only - It's like pregnancy where everybody wants to touch your swollen belly; all of a sudden my labia were public interest points and not my private genital area. It is quite funny though, telling people where my 'other two metal bits' are and watching their faces in either disgust or disbelief- I think the next peircing I will get will be a vertical clit hood piercing or possibly the other lips
I am totally pleased with them, and my advice to anyone who wants one is go and do it- it isn't that bad pain-wise I think my tongue and even my top ears were worse than these- but really do do your research first. I would NOT have liked anything to go wrong, or an infection. To these people who do them themselves: I admire your pluckiness, but really not a good idea. I did contemplate that, as I'm sure everyone does (why pay £X for what i could do myself just stick a needle through...) But you are paying for their skill and that skill is what means you will be safe and non-septic. Listen to advice. Heed. Continue...
