Okay. So I was looking around through piercing books and browsing on different websites about a year ago and I liked a lot of the things I saw, but I never really got around to getting anything pierced besides my ears when I was little and my frenulum (that stringy thing underneath the tongue) about two years ago. I had wanted different piercings for as long as I could remember. When I was little I always found them fascinating. I chose to have my inner labia done because I'm not really one for showy piercing and tattoos. This way I can choose who sees it and who doesn't.

I had pierced friends for the longest time, (I've done ears, frenulum, navel x2, smiley, labret/lip, eyebrow x2) and I think maybe that's why I didn't really think of piercing much of my own parts for all this time. So I have needles and gloves and sometimes I borrow forceps from a friend when necessary.

So one day when I was online looking around I decided that I could pierce my inner labia without much of a problem. The only thing I really needed to watch out for was making them symmetrical. I don't tend to be a bleeder, but being ready for bleeding was also another precaution I took. (anyone that hasn't pierced themselves and wants to, it's a very good idea to get ready for these things so you don't get caught off guard and let it become a problem.)

I had all my tools, well, just the forceps soaking in alcohol before I started my work. I set down a clean towel in front of a propped up mirror so I could have a good view of what I was doing. I cleaned my labia and surrounding areas and put on a pair of latex gloves. Marking myself was I think the most time consuming part of the whole process.

So when I was done with all the marking, I clamped one labia and matched up the dots. Then I unwrapped the needle. (always ALWAYS use a new sterile needle, even if you only used it on yourself) and I drove it through steadily. I first put the needle on one dot and watched it go through from the other side to make sure it went through both dots so it would be even.

I followed the needle out with a captive bead ring and didn't put the ball on just yet. I pierced the other labia just as I had the first one. I was so glad I already marked it. I followed the needle out with the ring again. So I had two rings with no beads. This was going to be the hard part. I take back what I said about the marking being the most time consuming. At least I didn't bleed at all, now that's something that made it a lot easier and quicker. The ring spreader was a little difficult to use at the angle everything was at and it only left me with one hand to put the ball on with so I ditched it. I just kind of forced the ball in but it definitely wasn't as easy as it just sounded. It took about fifteen or so minutes for the first ball then maybe five or ten minutes for the second ball. I won't be doing that again because my fingers hurt like hell the next day and two days later I still couldn't feel the tips of my thumb or index finger. :c(

So all in all the whole process was pretty much pain free and not very difficult to do. Although my friends like to rough house and fool around a lot so sometimes the piercing would get hit or kicked or something and I could have sworn that I was a guy and I had just gotten kicked on the balls or something, but once they were healed there wasn't as much issues like that to worry about. So my healing time was prolonged and that sucked because they hurt to the touch for a while after that. I usually heal pretty fast though.

I say if you want something discreet and not as showy for a piercing, and one quite that's easy to deal with (in my opinion) then the inner labia is a great option. I've had them for a little over six months now and they've been no real trouble at all. (...and they don't get in the way of most sexual activities like other genital piercing tend to do...) :c)

I don't mean to preach or anything, but I don't recommend piercing yourself, as opposed to going to a professional, because chances are you probably don't really know what you're doing. That's why pierces are there doing what they do. But... if you must do it yourself, then always use sterile equipment and wear gloves. Read up on aftercare and what to do if you screw up. Especially when dealing with genital piercing.
