March 18th '03:

My new piercing supplies had arrived in the morning post, 3 more needles and 2 new 14 gauge, 6mm barbells with 4mm balls, perfect for another pair of inner labial piercings, to sit along side my first set which were barely a week old.

I put the package away in a drawer and went for a shower to get ready before I set to work on the piercings. Once I'd gotten dry and dressed I made my way into the kitchen where I opened the freezer and cracked a few ice cubes into a glass, placed it on a tray alongside some kitchen towel and made my way back to my bedroom bolting the door behind me for privacy.

After a couple of minutes organizing equipment; antiseptic wipes, clamps needle, cotton pads, antiseptic spray and jewellery on the tray alongside the glass of ice and sheets of tissue I sat the tray on the floor and sat myself against the wall. With legs akimbo I set to work on numbing myself, using a cotton pad to hold an ice cube, I held it against the flesh that I was planning to pierce. Once the numbing had started I set the ice back down and picked up the clamps, selected the piercing location and fastened the clamps with an elastic band, then picking up the ice again I held it against the underside of this now clamped and confined piece of flesh and with the needle in my right hand and holding both the ice and clamps in my left hand, I pressed the tip of the needle down into the skin and then with one firm push I felt the needle almost glide through the flesh, totally pain free.

I had managed to push the needle into the ice and as I retracted the needle back through the receiving tube the ice fell free. I wanted to work quickly so I picked up the jewellery and pushed it into the end of the receiving tube, one again retracting the tube and jewellery at the same time so as to cause less trauma to the skin.

Fortunately I had had some practice at this already as only days earlier I had given myself my first pair of inner labia piercings, and now I was half way towards my second pair.

As soon as I had fastened the ball in place I slowly loosened the clamps, and as sure as the morning sun rise a small stream of blood began to trickle from the fresh wound. I still had another piercing to proceed with so I simply placed a cotton pad over my new piercing to aid in absorbing the blood and keeping it out of my way whilst I set to work on piercing my right inner labia to finish the second pair.

I repeated the process of numbing the area, clamping, re-numbing and then with a new needle I started to push the sharp point through my flesh one again. The needle didn't pass through the flesh as well as it had previously so I had to put a bit more effort into pushing it through, then eventually the needle slid straight through and passed out of the other side, embedding itself into the ice cube being held against the underside.

Again I worked quickly replacing the receiving tube with jewellery but I struggled to get the ball in place as the thread didn't seem to match up properly - after a couple of very slow minutes I finally managed to align the threads properly and the ball fastened in place tight and secure.

Again I loosened the clamps and the blood began to flow, so I removed the pad covering my other new piercing and squirted an antiseptic spray onto the area to help clean the piercings. As I wiped away the excess blood and the flow started to decrease I could see that the second piercing wasn't as straight as I'd hoped it would be, but that was mostly my fault due to not marking any guide dots before piercing.

Although on the outside surface of my labia the piercings looked to sit next to each other, on the inside they were wide apart, my heart sank but I didn't want to cause any more trauma to this already tender area of my body, so who knows, perhaps in a couple of weeks I will see about removing and straightening the piercing, but for now I'm going to let it settle and see how it works out.

As I am still caring for their new partners, I am simply going to continue with the same aftercare - occasional salt soaks and antiseptic washes as and when they are needed.

As with all my piercings, there are pictures available for adult IAM members to take a look at on my IAM page.

I have said this before and I will continue to say it. I have always maintained the thought and attitude that self piercing isn't safe, but I know I will continue to pierce myself but there are many factors that lead me to doing my own piercings. I only hope that people who read this will take the safe option and decide not to pierce themselves, but to go to a professional, reputable studio and have their piercings performed correctly and safely.
