I am writing this because I have noticed a trend in people posting their stories within a week or two of getting the piercing. When I began my research on this site for numerous piercings, I was more curious about the long-term effects, so this is my story of my vertical hood piercing written over a year and a half after it happened. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions whatsoever, I would be more than happy to help you with your choice if I can! It was less painful than two surface piercings, and healed much quicker than my ear piercings.

I had wanted a piercing for quite awhile, but as a teenager in high school with a mom who thought an industrial ear piercing would be to extreme, I knew I would have to go with something much more discrete. I don't know where my initial interest in hood piercings came from, but I decided to go to a few local piercing places and inquire about the procedure. I liked the look of the horizontal piercings better, but was told they wouldn't do much for me sexually-and thus a vertical piercing was what I chose. I picked my shop based off of cost (perhaps not the best choice) and a counter girl who vehemently recommended it based off of personal experience.
I was seventeen at the time, about to begin my senior year of high school. One cannot fault the piercer, I had a very convincing fake ID saying I was 19. In retrospect, I understand how I could have hurt the shop-I'd say just wait until you are eighteen J I went in, they scanned my ID, did the proper paperwork, etc. I was a walk-in, as this was my first non-earlobe piercing. I didn't have enough courage to make an appointment and actually keep it.
It was very professional, when the piercer said the most awkward part was coming-taking my pants off-well, I wish that was the worst part! After it was marked, and the placement was approved. Everything went very easily-I'm not going to say it didn't hurt, but the pain lasted for perhaps three seconds. As this was awhile ago, I can't remember the specificities of the feeling during the procedure, but I do remember being surprised at how quickly it was over. The swelling lasted perhaps a day, and it looked quite odd.
The healing time was extremely short. They told me four week minimum, but it was, at most, two until I had full use of the area. One thing I would recommend is avoiding bike riding-I lived 2.5 miles from my school, and would have soccer practice at least daily. Even slight changes when you are on a bike is quite painful. However, this piercing did not affect my extremely active lifestyle at all.
I would recommend keeping up with your cleaning for a few weeks after the piercing appears completely healed. I went to a convention a few weeks after getting it pierced, and didn't clean it but once over three days. This caused there to be some sort of nominal, yet still annoying discharge. Just clean it with your salt soaks regularly, and this should be no problem.
One of my favorite parts of the piercing is hearing others talk about such piercings in wonder, especially those who do not know I have one. When friends marvel about being able to have orgasms while you're walking, or other happenings 'as a result' of the piercings, it is quite funny. In reality, unless there is direct stimulation, I can't feel the piercing. It isn't a magic cure-all piercing, and the information known by those who haven't done there research generally exaggerate the effects.
Would I recommend it? Completely. I love both the look and the feel. Also, it is an extremely functional piercing. I was unable to bring myself to orgasm without a vibrator before I got the piercing, now I can do it on my own anywhere. Both of my partners have loved it, and after becoming accustomed, do not like it when I take it out. From what I hear, it is more enjoyable to give oral sex on a partner who is pierced-it is novel and fun. I asked my boyfriend's views on it, and I quote, "It makes it kind of pretty. I don't know, it adds something to it." Not particularly descriptive, I suppose, but another favorable response. I hope this has been helpful, and I would like to reiterate my willingness to talk to anyone with questions. Feel free to e-mail me. Do no be scared by the pain, the pleasure far outweighs it! I consider the piercing/jewelry fee to be well worth it. I would recommend this piercing 100%
