Well, after surfing the BME site for a good three or four weeks, trying to suppress my urge for new metal, I figured I should go for my clit-hood. I had attempted it before, only to fall at the last hurdle, getting the jewellery in. This time around it was really a replacement for sub-clavicles because I can't find anyone in the UK who'll do them. I was left disappointed and craving foreign objects in my body after being rejected by several piercers.

I'd also like to acknowledge that surgical spirit is not an effective way to kill diseases such as hepatitis B/C. All Piercing equipment should be sealed in sterile packaging before you use it or autoclaved where possible.
As I've pierced myself several times before, I grabbed the tools and set up. I prefer to pierce myself, mainly because I can control the pace and placement and secondly it's quite an erotic experience. First, I washed my hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap. I did think about wearing latex gloves, but can't stand the feeling of sweat on my hands. Then I wiped the area I was planning to pierce with surgical spirit. I should have marked the area to prevent it being wonky when I finished, but I was far too excited. Luckily it came out pretty straight anyway. Trust me; sitting in a wheelie computer chair with your legs up next to your ears is not dignified and I wished to spend as little time that way as possible.
Stretching the hood out, I picked the spot. I took a sterile needle from the packet and lined it up, checking in a mirror perched on my desk the positioning as I did so. Lining it up in its final position I began to apply some gentle pressure. After a little shove it popped straight out on the other side. Usually I pierce as slow as bearable to ensure I can control the placing properly, but I was concerned this one was going to hurt. I wish I'd bothered to numb it. Stupidly I was willing to forgo the ten minute 'numbing with ice' routine. I did feel a pinch and sting, which only lasted a couple of seconds but was quite intense. I put a small piece of cork on the end and left it for a moment while I prepared the jewellery, a small 16g curved barbell.
After cleaning it with surgical spirit, (I wasn't too worried about germs as all my jewellery is autoclaved at my local piercers regularly), I removed the cork and slid the needle out slowly, expecting blood. I was pleasantly surprised when none came. I slipped the jewellery in and screwed the ball on. I was shocked at how easily the jewellery slid in, after I had so much trouble the last time I attempted it. Thinking to myself it looked absolutely lovely, I admired it in the mirror for a while and put my trousers and knickers back on.
So far I haven't had any complications, aside from coming on, but I don't think it's affected it. As far as I can see, everything is healing nicely and hopefully, will continue to do so. I've been sticking to a strict ritual of salt soaks twice a day. One thing I would suggest is not to wear lace knickers for a while. Every time I sat down it caught on the lace and I had to shuffle around to unhook it, this is mainly due to the barbell being too long for the piercing now the swelling has gone down though. Loose boxers were far more comfortable. Once it's healed I intend to change it to a ring. I hope that'll reduce the chances of getting caught in my underwear. Driving also induces some interesting sensations. But I'm sure that'll wear off as it heals. Other than those I can't really think of anytime when I've really noticed it.
People's reactions when I tell them/ they find out are absolutely comical. Most pull a disgusted face, but give in to their curiosity eventually and ask the usual questions; "how could you do that to yourself" and "did it hurt". Others look at me in complete awe. One girl even asked me where that was. Needless to say I was shocked at her lack of knowledge about her anatomy. My boyfriend isn't sure what to think, but he's not into modding. Though I'm sure I can convince him it's for a good cause.
Well, wish me luck; the hardest thing is no sex for a couple weeks, I'm struggling not to touch it. It'll be worth it once it heals though.
Safe and happy piercing kids.
