After piercing my own nipples 3 years ago I decided it was time to pierce something else due to the fact that I have now split up with my boyfriend and needed something new for myself.

This time I couldn't do it myself but couldn't get the nerve to go to a professional and show myself to a stranger so I got a friend from work (a qualified nurse and best friend for 8 years)to do it for me. She was all worried about doing it but I talked her round to it and she agreed after a week of nagging.
I ordered all of the supplies from the internet (I don't remember the website) and we decided to go to my flat after work one Friday and do it there. My friend was a bit nervous about it so I showed her the pictures and experiences on BME which helped her figure out the placement and the technique for the piercing.
After 4 hours of research she was ready and after a nice meal of pasta we went to the bathroom and I sat on the (clean) cold tiled floor and we began. The actual piercing was all a blur as I don't remember it all too well as it was over in a matter of seconds. All I remember is saying I am ready and then a sharp instant pain like no one can imagine for a brief second and then getting up and looking in the mirror and seeing a steel bar through my genitals. It was the most enjoyable moment of my life standing there admiring my new metal. That night I couldn't sleep at all for the fear that I would catch it and tear the bar out. The whole weekend was the same I couldn't do anything for the fear of tearing my new piercing out and ruining the perfect look of it.
The next week or so were fun as I work at a hospital (I am a nurse) and have to run around after patients and other doctors. The discomfort was just about bearable but not painful so I didn't look like I had pooped myself as I have seen others with piercings walk.
The most pain I have felt since the actual piercing has been when I went out on my bicycle and managed to slip off the saddle onto the bar (I ride a mans bike) and had to find a bench and sit for a while until the pain settled.
I have found that I now spend my spare time at home (I now live alone) standing naked in front of my full length mirror admiring my now perfectly adorned body and holding jewelry upto different parts of my body to see what else I would like to be pierced and wondering what jewelry I could find that could link the three piercings using my necklaces to make various patterns of chain between them.
I have found that the look of the piercing is pleasing to the eye and not too obvious if I am ever seen with no clothes on (which isn't very often) and does not show through a bikini which I was worried about because I do a lot of swimming in the summer months. I can't wait for it to fully heal because I have bought a jeweled bar with a peridot (my birthstone) set in a gold bar which should match the rings I have in my nipple piercings.
My friend having more nerves than me went to a professional 3 days later and got her vertical hood piercing to match as she said it had looked so good on me she wanted one. She also has her nipples pierced (by me) because she loved the way they looked on me.
I still have not had my ears pierced, but I may get them done now I am getting into peircings and may get my navel done as a public piercing as I wear a lot of tops that show bare midriff and would like to adorn that bare space with a birthstone set bar sometime in the future. Watch this space.
I can say that this piercing is for you girls out there that want something that is personal and private but don't want to have something that is uncomfortable or ugly but don't do it yourself or get a friend to do it as you could not be as lucky as I am (Iam a nurse and my friend is a nurse so we know what we are doing with regard cleanliness and needles.
