I've thought about getting a hood piercing for about three months now, ever since the school year was ending and I was finding myself paying more and more attention to bmezine.com and less and less attention to the most critical time at school. However, it did take me three months to decide to go through with the piercing.

After I finished work, I started the short walk to New Tribe, calling it literally the 'walk of doom'. The whole time going there I was wondering what the hell I was thinking actually walking to the studio to get a ring through my private parts! I had already been told by many people that it was crazy and weird, but then again I wasn't doing it for anyone else. When I arrived at the studio I took a look around, the 'waiting area' was spacious, there was a pool table in the middle and the red wall colors were definitely mood lifters, but nonetheless I was still worried. I conveyed my worry after telling the girl at the desk which piercing I was planning on getting. She said she hadn't personally had any type of genital piercings done but she was sure that I could handle it - whatever 'it' happened to be. I was still not convinced. I filled out the mandatory form and then told her that I thought I'd go downstairs for a bit and I would be back shortly.

I ended up going down to the bar that was directly underneath New Tribe to have one drink - since I knew that too much alcohol would thin my blood and cause more bleeding (another thing I was worried about because I had conveniently forgotten to bring any panty liners). I chatted to the guys at the bar as they tried to convince me to spill the beans on what piercing I was getting done upstairs. I managed to keep it on the down low, despite being hounded by the bartenders.

After finishing my drink, I went back upstairs to the studio and was greeted by a guy that asked me right away if I was getting my hood pierced. (News travels fast LOL) I said yes, and he showed me his portfolio, turning to the pages that were photos of female genital piercings. He then introduced himself as Daryl. I was originally hoping to catch Blair, who used to work at Passage but now works at New Tribe, but unfortunately he was away for the month on his vacation. My thoughts afterwards would be that Jonny Tribe would be the piercer, but it ended up being a guy Daryl, who truthfully I didn't even know was employed by the studio. I asked him about his credentials, and he seemed very cool, relaxed but also professional. Immediately I knew I would be going through with the piercing. I had originally gone in wanting a horizontal piercing, but after looking at the vertical one, it looked pretty as well.

Daryl asked me if I wanted to go before the guy who was getting his nose pierced or have some more time to think about it and do it afterwards. I opted for after, and continued thinking about which piercing I wanted more. I went to use the washroom before the procedure and just as I came out of washroom, Daryl said he was ready for me.

It was now do or die, I chose do. I walked in, quite nervous still, and I wasn't afraid to show my worry to the piercer, who took it like a champ, still comforting me that it wasn't that big of a deal and it was more mental than physical. He showed me all the tools he would be using to pierce me, and they were all in their packages still - he made it a point to show me that. I finally decided on a horizontal piercing after all, and it was to be pierced with a 14 gauge needle and the jewelery would be a CBR. He asked me to take off my pants while he went to get the needle and the jewelery. I asked where the point of the needle was when he returned, and when he showed me...I wanted to die, it looked so big to me, but it must be tiny to a piercer.

I wasn't too uncomfortable being naked from the waist down, I was wearing a longer shirt and it made me feel a bit better. I asked for some numbing stuff and he said he had some mild stuff that would take about three minutes to work and he would put it on after cleaning the area. We shot the shit for a few minutes, he told me about his girlfriend and how she is just getting used to his job and how many naked girls he sees daily. Soon it was time and he was making the marks with the marker and then brought the mirror for me to inspect it (he picked up the mirror with a clean piece of paper towel to not spread any germs around the room). I OK'ed it and he started using the clamp. He fiddled with it for a good two minutes before he was satisfied with its positioning. I asked him to put the clamp on as tight as possible so I wouldn't feel the needle as much. He said he'd do it as tight as he could safely, because he didn't want it to bleed.

Now for the moment...he told me to close my eyes, breathe in and then out - and then I felt a small pinch. And that was it. I laughed out loud for all the worrying I did for something that was so miniscule. I asked him if it was over, he said yes, and I hopped off the table put my jeans back on and tipped him. He was a doll - a really good piercer to work with I highly recommend him...for a girl that only has her ears and belly button pierced and was having a stress attack for an hour before she allowed him to pierce her, he took it like a champ.

I didn't feel it after as I walked down the street. And it was almost as if it wasn't even there - that's how painless it was. It bled two tiny spots in the first half and hour and then it hasn't bled since (it's the night after). I didn't have any problems with it the entire day after, it was almost as if it was non existent. But I know its there. ;) No tenderness, soreness, swelling, bleeding or oozing pus. It's being the perfect piercing candidate. I soak it with a sea salt bath for five minutes twice a day, and I couldn't be more pleased with it.
