Ever since I was about 15 I have been obsessed with the vertical hood piercing. Unfortunately this isn't a piercing you can have your parents sign for so I just had to wait. When I was 16 one of my best friends turned 18 and she got her horizontal hood. I was jealous and could not stop thinking about how long I had to wait. She told me that there was virtually no pain except she was wearing jeans afterwards and she could feel the crotch of her jeans rubbing up against the piercing.

After years of looking at the pictures on BMEzine I couldn't wait. I had read literally every experience about the vertical hood so I was pretty sure I knew what to expect. Since my friend had already told me that jeans hurt I wore a dress to get the piercing. I went to my boyfriend's house, since it was his job to go with me. I was a little uncomfortable about getting naked in front of a stranger. We drove the twenty minutes to ink link and as soon was we walked in the man at the counter asked what I wanted. I told him I wanted a Vertical Hood piercing. He asked what kind of jewelry I wanted and I told him a 16 gauge curved barbell. He explained to me that having a curved barbell rather than a captive bead ring could rub against my clit, which could eventually cause me to lose feeling in it. I told him that was ok and if that started happening I would just take it out. He took my ID card and started laughing, He told me he thought it was funny that two day ago it would have been illegal for me to get this piercing done. I asked him if he often had eighteen year olds come in for that piercing. He said no, that it was usually older women coming in for their hood piercing. After that I filled out the consent form and then had to wait a while.
When they were ready for me the piercer took my boyfriend and me back to the private piercing room and shut the door. He told me to pull up my skirt and take off my underwear. Since this was my first time getting nude in front of someone I didn't know I was a little freaked out but I did it and I just shoved my underwear in my purse, and figured I'd worry about them later. He had me lay down and he cleaned off the area. He then marked it and had my boyfriend look to see if it was straight. I was so nervous while he was putting on a new pair of gloves and getting the needle out. I knew that in most of the experiences on BME the women said it didn't hurt but I was still so scared having someone poke around my genitals. While I was thinking all these things he took the needle and shoved it through. It hurt for a second but it was seriously the exact feeling as if you were to grab your hood and pinch it. I couldn't believe how little pain there was.
He then gave me the care instructions sheet and the phone number and told me to call him if I had any problems. I don't know who could have problems with this piercing. It was sore that night and maybe for two days after that but only if I was playing with it or something rubbed against it. It felt like it was heeled within three days. The care instruction sheet said I should clean it in the shower and anytime I went to the bathroom or anytime I touched it. I cleaned it every time I went to the shower, but that's about it. I almost never cleaned it after touching it or going to the bathroom and it heeled fine. I went to play poker the night I got it done and I wore jeans and I couldn't feel it rubbing at all. This was seriously the easiest piercing I ever got, and there was very little pain associated with it.
I would highly recommend this piercing to anyone. It's so pretty and it hardly hurt at all. One of my favorite parts about this piercing is how tough you sound when you tell people you have it done. It always impresses them. Another thing that made me happy was that this cute guy at work has his Prince Albert piercing so when I told him I had my Vertical Hood he thought it was hot.
