I was in AIT for the military and a handful of the other females in my company went out and got hood piercings. With the way they were describing the non-existent pain, and the pleasure after the healing process, I decided I was going to do one also, as a surprise to my fiance, even though all my life I have sworn to never get it done.
One of the guys in my company was a piercer for a shop in his hometown, so I asked him if he would do my piercing for me on one of our weekend passes. He agreed, so we got a room at a hotel off post for the weekend and i invited a friend of mine and my fiance to watch. He was able to use a 14G needle from my aid bag (I was in training for combat medic) as the piercing needle. He also told me to bring some gloves, an un-opened tongue depressor, and my antibiotic ointment and alcohol pads along with me.
When we got to the hotel he set up a chair on the corner of the bed, grabbed one of the towels to set up his tools on, he had brought a trash bag he had asked for in the lobby and spread it out on the corner of the bed. He went and washed his hands and put on the gloves. He then opened the needle and laid it on the towel. He was all set up, and it was now my turn.
I took off my pants and underwear and laid on the trash bag like he wanted me to and put my feet on either side of his hips and had my fiance sit behind me so I could lean on him. Moses then looked at where he was going to place the piercing and then wiped off the area with an alcohol wipe and made his mark.
He then picked up the needle and asked if I was ready. At that time I was so nervous, but I said yea so he reached down and grabbed the area of skin below where the piercing was to be made since he didn't have any clamps and told me to take a deep breath, I did, and to slowly let it out. As I was letting the air out, he pushed the needle through. As soon as I felt the needle prick, I tensed up, but I didn't move.
And now that part was over. I was relieved, they were right, it was pretty painless. But now came for the part where he put the jewelry in. (I had brought some jewelry that I had gotten at some store and he had opened it there as he was setting up.) He grabbed the needle and told me to take another deep breath, and so i did, and to let it out. As I was letting the air out he started to slide the needle out as he prepared to slide the jewelry in at the same time. And that's when things started to go wrong.
As he was sliding the needle out, I felt a kind of "pop", that really hurt, so I jumped, un-intentionally of course. When I jumped, the piercer accidentally slid the entire needle all the way out. He grabbed my legs with his elbows and quickly tried to slide the jewelry in, but it was too late, it had already closed. He asked me if I wanted him to try again using a different needle, and I said yes, so he opened another needle and wiped off the area with another alcohol pad and tried to stick the needle through the same holes. He did that successfully. He then wiped off the jewelry and asked me again if I was ready. At that point, I was scared. But I managed to nod my head and took a deep breath.
He asked my friend, that up until then was just watching and taking pictures, to hold my hips down. As I was letting my air out, he tried again, with the same results. I jumped, out came the needle, and he tried unsuccessfully to insert the jewelry all the way. So he asked me if I wanted him to try and forcefully push the jewelry through. It was almost all the way through, and I was flexible enough that he let me look and see that I could see the silver of the hoop through my skin, so I agreed.
So he started pushing, at first I just gritted my teeth and grunted, but the longer and harder he tried, the more my grunts turned into screams. Finally about three or four forceful pushes I felt the jewelry come through the other side. He popped the ball on and told me I was the proud new owner of a brand new hood ornament. It was so painful I couldn't even move for a few hours, but it healed up quickly, and I can definitely say that I can agree with those girls on how this piercing has been treating me since it healed. My fiance and I broke up, and I've gotten some very "exciting" dates due to the piercing alone.
