I have been known to do spontaneous things, but this was still a shocker. One night my septum ring fell out. Although, I have to admit I was bummed, it suddenly occurred that I could get another piercing! It's a little deal I had with my mom. She'd only allow me to have a certain number of wholes in my body. She's really liberal about piercings now but that took some time. I had been interested in a number of piercings but I wanted to find the right one. You know, the one that would look okay with my other piercings, that wouldn't make me look too crowded, one without a high rejection rate, one that would look good, and one that's easily hidden. After careful consideration I narrowed it down to a hood. I looked at pictures and read stories and then realized that I'd prefer a ring vs. just another barbell.

My mom wasn't too thrilled about this idea. But I had an idea to trick her into it. I had always asked for my nipples to be pierced and she'd reply, "No, I'd rather have you get your vagina pierced." I'd say no and be on my way. But not today. I came up to her and asked if I could get my nipples done. She said her normal reply thinking that it would make me leave... HA! I said fine, I'll pierce my hood. And that was that.
I called a couple of shops asking if they did under age piercings with parental consent. There were only a few in the neighborhood and most of them hung up on me as soon as they found out I wanted a hood done at 17. So the hunt for a shop took some time. I called Kitty Kat Tattoo and they said they'd be willing to do it. After we played a game of 20 questions we set an appointment for the very next day.
I wasn't sure what to wear... If I wore jeans that could cause some friction and might be painful. I was planning on going to dinner directly afterwards so it couldn't be pajamas. I then decided that a loose skirt would be the most comfortable. Underwear or not? I went commando. I did a bit of grooming and was on my way.
Alright, I'm set. Feeling good. I'm not nervous. Drove down to the shop, signed the release form, and waited. The shop was very clean and I was impressed at their experience. But my time had come. My palms began to sweat [which was talent because it was 50 degrees in there.] I sat down in the chair and preceded to ask a few more questions. Will it bother me to urinate afterwards? Will it bleed a lot? He told me some funny stories about his first genital piercing to break the ice. Finally I was secure. I lifted up my skirt. It wasn't as awkward as I had planned. The way I think about it is that this guy has seen a couple hundred of vaginas, mine won't do anything for him. His apprentice was with him and she offered me her hand. He showed me where it would set and went to work. He marked the area and put the clamps on. The clamps weren't tight at all. He pierced it with a taper to get it to the right gauge. That was the most painful part. What did it feel like? Like a piece of metal going through my hood, what do you think? I just grit my teeth and squeezed the apprentice's hand. He was jumping around the chair in the small piercing room to put the jewelry in. While he was tightening the hoop to get the ball in he pinched my skin. But that was nothing compared to the piercing itself so I barely felt it. It bled quite a bit compared to my other piercings. It was all worth it when I looked in the mirror at the end. The jewelry was perfectly centered and the ball rested at the correct place. I was thrilled.
I had some trouble finding a comfortable position to sleep in that night. But the next night I found more relief. The cleaning technique was a bit different than what I'm used to. It's not recommended to use bactine like other piercings but to use antibacterial soap instead. The piercer told me that alcohol can irritate any genital piercing so I took his word for it.
It's my little secret. I'll be in class talking to someone and all I can think about is that I have a hood piercing and they have no idea. It's quite thrilling and I'd recommend this piercing to anyone with the balls [no pun intended] to do it.
