I wanted a hood piercing for awhile. Never thought I would actually go through with it though. I finally decided to suck it up and do it. I read all the experiences I could and completely freaked myself out. I looked at what seemed like a million pictures. I emailed and discussed with people I know. Just trying to do all my homework on it. My husband and I called around to different studios in the area and decided the best one was Art of The Ages. At one place we called and the person answering the phones didn't know what a hood piercing was. Needless to say they certainly weren't my choice. I set my mind on a vertical piercing but knew that I'd have to be checked first. I emailed AOTA and asked a few questions on what type of jewelry they used. Gin got right back to me and said they use a Captive bead ring and they prefer to do the horizontal piercings if possible.

Made an appointment and wouldn't let myself talk myself out of it. I showed up early for the appointment and was a nervous wreck. I wanted to run and fast. Gin answered all my questions and couldn't have been nicer. The whole place is really relaxing and has awesome artwork all over the walls. So I watched the clock slowly hit each minute and I nervously paged through different albums. I just wanted it done and over with fast. I waited for Phil the piercer to finish up a tattoo. Phil came out and took me back to the piercing room. He couldn't have been nicer and really put me at ease. He was one hundred percent professional and very kind.

He drew me little pictures to explain different things and had me pick out my ball. He wanted to make sure I knew everything about this particular piercing. He showed me the different ways we could go. I asked which size I should go for and he chuckled and told me the bigger the better. How very true. I picked a pretty light green..green is my thing heh. Now it was time for the now or never. Was I actually going to go through with it? This was my moment of truth. I honestly didn't think I could do it. I seriously underestimate myself. Heck I pushed out three babies and two were without drugs.

I was instructed to drop drawers and hop up on the table. He told me to scoot my butt to the edge and there were stirrups there if I wanted to use them. I threw my feet up into those babys and all modesty was out the window. The whole time he is talking with me about the piercing and a few different things. He said for someone who has had three kids I really kept my shape well. Quite the compliment if I do say so myself. For some reason I had no problems exposing my naughty parts. Even laying there though I wanted to get up and run. But I knew if I backed out I would regret it. I just needed to get it over and done with. He handed me a mirror and showed me what would work for me. Phil decided a vertical piercing wasn't suitable for my anatomy so we went horizontal. Apparently I'm a little tighter on one side and the barbell would end up pinching into the side. All the while he's chatting and really settling my nerves. He puts the clamps on and they pinch. Not an unbearable but pretty uncomfortable type pinch. I kept hoping the pinching was the piercing and he would surprise me by saying "all done". Not to be. He had me breathe in and out ..next the needle went in. It hurt/stung/pinched but only for a second. I know I made a goofy face. He quickly said "You're pierced the needles in" that was music to my ears. I didn't feel the ring going in at all but did feel him putting the ball on. That part didn't hurt a bit. I told him I couldn't believe that I actually did it. I was totally impressed with myself.

Afterwards he told me about the aftercare and told me I did a good job. We walked out of the room and I paid and tipped. He did an awesome job. It's bleeding a bit but has slowed down a lot since coming home. The ride home was a little uncomfortable but now I can't even tell it's there. I'm so excited that I actually went through with it. So if you are in the State College area go to AOTA. Phil is awesome and so is Gin. Thanks for the wonderful experience!!
