Why is it that when I have no money, seems to be the point in time where I want new mods? And what, in all my broke glory, makes me seem to think that this is a reason to order needles and have a go at myself? I have a vague feeling I am not alone, and I feel the need to share one of the few self piercing stories I have hidden under my belt. Now, I do not condone doing these mods yourself over going to a professional. They can always use the business, and they can almost always do it better. I, myself, use piercing as self exploration, and therefore do some mods myself, and in turn learn my lessons. On to the story:

After my usual evening of bouncing from one Iam page to another, looking at pictures, poll voting, and signing petitions, boredom set in. I got to a page that featured a rather attractive girl with a HCH, (Horizontal Clitoral Hood) piercing. I like how those are placed versus the vertical version. So all of a sudden my plain bits screamed for a bit of metallic decoration. Me, never needing much prodding or pushing to do something, gathered all my supplies together: gloves, sterilized needle, cork, clean jewelry, gel, and my new slotted Foerster clamps. ( yes, I do this a lot. )

After cleaning my area thoroughly, I showered well, and prepped "my" area. I shaved, and used cleansing wipes to make sure all was well. I positioned myself with a mirror between my feet, and adjusted it to the right angle. I gloved myself and marked where I wanted it. I held up the jewelry to the area to see if the ball would sit in the place I wanted it to. All seemed squared away, and I changed gloves again, and positioned my clamps. Aligning the marks was a bit tough from my point of view but I finally got it to where I felt good about it.

I reached for the needle with a bit of gel on the end and took a deep breath. I lined up the tip of the needle with the first mark and began to press. That little piece of skin was a bit tougher and more elastic than I had thought, and I had to regain my composure. I tried to move the needle away and I then realized that it was bit in already. This cheered me on, and I realigned my point of entry and went at it once again. This time it went in fine, partially as I knew what to expect. I was actually able to keep my eyes open, and that surprised me.

Once the needle was through, I removed the clamps, very carefully mind you, and rested for a second. Sitting and enjoying the afterglow, so to speak, is my favorite part of the experience. I took the captive bead ring, which already had the bead taken off, and placed it into the receiving end of the needle. As I pushed through the skin and the pain, a smile crept over my face and it was wonderful. "It's all about the pain, the ink and metal are merely souvenirs."

The ring went through easily, but trying to get the ball back in was a bit harder. I had to try several times to get that blasted little ball to snap back in. Every time I would miss, I would bump or jar the piercing and that was not pleasurable. I eventually got a decent angle on it and it snapped it. I sat there a bit and enjoyed the view in the mirror, which was now a bit off kilter due to my legs jumping around from the ball incident. Once the jelly feeling left my legs, I stood up and went to walk, and I felt a tinge of pain. I spent about twenty minutes walking like I just got off a horse. Need a visual? Just think back to any old western where the cowboy swaggers into the saloon. I kept wanting to wear my cowboy hat, and walking around tilting it saying, "Ma'am.." Hey at least I have sense of humor at a time like that!

About 2 of 3 weeks of cleansing and salt soaks, it had healed well with minimal crusties, and had become my then girlfriend's new play toy. Hey, who am I to complain? Whether it was too much messing with, or a bad placement to begin with, it ended up being crooked a bit. I have an issue with symmetry and it bugged me for about another 3 months before I had to bit adu' to my newfound friend. This saddened my girl, but since the time that I had pierced my hood, another piercing had come along that she settled for. As they say folks, that is another story!
