I have been thinking about getting a vertical hood piercing for about the last six months, but wasn't quite sure about the healing process and if I could handle it - it seemed pretty extreme compared to my other piercings (nose, navel, and tragus). I finally went for it two days ago. I finally decided to call my piercer and discuss it. He was totally cool and encouraged me to go for it since it really wasn't anything complicated or out of the ordinary. I had heard that before, but had my doubts. Unfortunately I couldn't meet up with him but he recommended me to another piercer that had time to meet with me that day.

So I headed off to Passage in Toronto, and it all went smooth from there. I met with Joanne and she assured me that it would be as easy if not easier than any of my other piercings and just as easy to care for. So, I picked a teeny little barbell and went for it. The most awkward part was just getting undressed and sitting in the stirrups. I wore a skirt, so that was good. I only had to take off my underwear and hike the skirt up. It was a little weird being marked and just sitting there having her check everything out but it went really smooth and she seemed to think it would look really good. She walked me through it and then it was simple as ever. The piercing itself hurt for about a half a second of sharp quick pain and that was that. The jewelry slid right on and after that I didn't feel a thing. When I looked, I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. It sits perfectly nice and neat and tucked away. The top ball sits straight on top of the hood and the bottom one is directly under the hood and you can sort of just see the bottom of it, so all you see are the beads pretty much. Nothing was sore or red. It looked absolutely perfect. I got dressed right after and could walk and everything just fine. The skirt was comfortable because I felt good getting air on the whole area and stuff, but sitting and driving and everything were fine. I was really worried about feeling swollen and having trouble doing normal things but none of that was the case at all. I've been cleaning it twice a day with a fragrance free glycerin soap that rinses really well and it's been absolutely fine - I hardly even feel it. Overnight I was totally comfortable. I would probably recommend sleeping in the nude just to get air on everything. The next morning when I went in the shower there was a tiny bit of blood near the top ball, but really nothing at all. It doesn't even look like a fresh piercing at all. I was able to soap it up gently and move it all around and up and down and clean it really well with not problems or discomfort at al "\Ãw€ë l. I was surprised how easily it moves without any pain or anything. There was no crust or discharge or anything gross to wash away – it looked completely fine.

I was worried a lot about aftercare and healing, but Joanne said it's likely to be mostly healed within seven days and to just continue keeping it really clean for 5-8 weeks to make sure everything is perfect. She said not to have any sex for awhile which makes sense, but I did on the second day really carefully without touching that area and without getting anything near it or on it. That seemed to go smoothly and it's still really clean and no pain or anything, so I suppose I'm in good shape.

I can't wait until it's all healed up and I can let the good times roll! I would highly recommend that if you're thinking about having it done, just go do it because you'll love it. It's easy and even less hassle than a navel and hurt significantly less than my nose. I think that it's so beautiful being a woman and getting to decorate your most intimate parts like that. The way it is all tucked away and can just sort of sneak out if you let it is absolutely gorgeous. My boyfriend thinks it is super super hot and my best friend who sort of wasn't for it in the beginning had a peak and even thought it was really pretty. I love it so much entirely already! So if you're thinking about having it done, just Giver! You wont regret it at all. It was easy, painless and looks great right away. If you do what your piercer says you'll be fine. Giver!!!
