Already having a nipple and navel ring, I wanted to add a final piercing to my body. I firmly decided on a genital piercing, but was shocked when I began some internet research and discovered there were so many options for "female genital piercings." I found the BME site and was so appreciative of all the opinions shared. This is why I am writing to explain my choice and share my experience with others who have a similar dilemma regarding which piercing to select.

Although I quickly knew that the two piercings that I was most interested in were the horizontal hood and the vertical hood, I remained open for other suggestions. After speaking with everyone, including my piercer, John at Jinx Proof in Georgetown, DC, the statement that most repeated itself was that "the horizontal hood is more for appearance where the vertical hood is more for pleasure." Another statement that stayed in my mind was that the vertical hood helps dramatically with women who have problems with orgasms and need extra stimulation. Despite having heard more suggestions to go for the vertical hood piercing, for some reason, I was simply attracted to the horizontal hood piercing.
I opted for the horizontal hood piercing and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with my decision. Fortunately, I am not a female who has trouble with orgasms. I say this because perhaps if you are a female who requires extra stimulation, then you should research and speak to other women who opted for the vertical hood. The women I spoke with that needed extra stimulation are quite happy with their choice of the vertical hood piercing. As for me, I am quite happy with my choice.
The horizontal hood piercing looks very sexy and is comfortable. It was humbling to be naked in front of my piercer, but he made me feel very comfortable and took the time to discuss all the different options available. He made me confident with my choice and the pain lasted only about 2 seconds. He put my jewelry in quickly and it really looked beautiful. He commended my ability not to jump or scream during the piercing and I have to say that the 2 seconds of pain was worth every second!!!!
It has been three weeks since my piercing. I have been walking on cloud nine ever since. I felt no pain directly following my piercing. I went out dancing right after having the piercing performed and was fine. I was actually better than fine as I truly felt like THE most sexy person. The next morning, my piercing bled quite heavily, but after that, it was fine. I used Bactine spray to clean it and did salt soaks about 3 times the first week (meaning diluting 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt with warm water, soaking it into a towel and placing it on my piercing for about 10 minutes). My essential word of caution is that you must wipe the Bactine spray off the other vaginal areas because you need certain bacteria....I know it sounds gross, but if you simply spray the area and don't wipe the excess off, you could wind up with a yeast infection. You certainly don't want that with a new sexy piercing!! Also, as much as you may want to try this piercing out immediately, DON'T! It will lead to intense swelling and with the vertical hood piercings, I have heard from ladies who couldn't wait that it pops the piercing out. It will be tough, but do yourself the favor, and wait (for at least two weeks)!!!
I hope my experience helps you with your decision. Bottom line: I would strongly recommend this piercing to anyone. Not only does this piercing look incredibly sexy, it feels amazing. I have more stimulation than I ever thought was possible. I give you this warning, ladies, you will encounter stimulation at times you never would have before (i.e.: while you are walking and driving). This makes masturbation, oral sex and regular sex so much better and more intense! My boyfriend loves it and I LOVE it!!
