It was my freshmen year in college and I decided to go see about getting something pierced. I was finally free from my parents, and so with my new freedom I set out to look at some possible choices for my first piercing. What is funny is I didn't even have my ears pierced, so to start my piercing obsession with a clitoral hood piercing seems a bit odd. I went with the guy who I was dating at the time to talk to someone at the piercing studio about pricing and procedure. The people there were very clean, in fact, someone spilled a drink in the waiting room and one of the guys freaked out and said he'd clean it up himself. He was worried that they would just smear it around and he had just waxed the floor. I thought it was funny he was so anal about the floor, but that was definitely a good indication that this place was really clean.

I was scared of the nerve damage I heard about from people who had their clit pierced through the nerves so they suggested I get the hood done instead. Then I had to decide if I wanted it vertical or horizontal. The woman who was going to do the piercing asked me why I wanted it horizontal, she said unless I was going to be stripping and showing my junk off there's no real reason to get it horizontal. So I went with the vertical orientation. She also told me I would enjoy the vertical orientation more than the horizontal just because of its placement on the nerve.
Preparation for the piercing was a little uncomfortable. I made sure the night before I was shaven clean. I had to go to the bathroom and clean up before actually going into the room to get ready for the piercing. Once in there, they used an antibacterial solution to clean me once more before the piercing. It was also odd to have her drawing dots down there, but I suppose its better than the woman just jamming it through and guessing where it should be. Either way, the preparation for the piercing was pretty strenuous.
The piercing itself was quick. I won't lie to you though, I have an insane pain tolerance and I was surprised this hurt so very badly. But it was over so quickly so I wasn't in pain for long. I had to remove my pants and then lay down on my back with my legs spread apart. I had to make sure I didn't slam my knees together once she pierced me and then knock out the poor woman doing the piercing. I actually came up off the table when the needle went through, but I made sure not to slam my knees into her head. Once the needle was through, she put the jewelry in, which wasn't painful at all. I recommend getting a barbell even if it is more expensive because it helps it heal much faster. I initially had a CBR but I had it changed out for a barbell because the CBR kept rubbing on my pants.
I healed really fast and my piercing wasn't even sore. I made sure to do the proper after care especially in such a sensitive area. It was weird doing a sea salt soak down there, but it was something I was able to do for a few minutes in the shower every morning and in the bath at night. I was fortunate to have gone to such a great shop, anytime I got worried or scared that something might be going wrong in the healing process; I was able to call them and ask. They were so helpful and answered all my questions without being assholes about it. And if I got really worried, I was always welcomed to come in and they would look at it and tell me what was up. I was new to the piercing experience so I had a lot of questions.
I made sure to keep turning the barbell but keeping it clean of crusty stuff all at the same time. You have to be careful not to turn it when it's not clean; otherwise you're just grinding that stuff into your freshly pierced skin. I've had the piercing for a year now, and I must say it's been very interesting. Not only have it made my sex life a lot better, the guys I've been with tell me they enjoy it a lot. I didn't realize they would be able to feel it as well as me, but they do. I recommend this piercing to all my friends but I get weird reactions all the time.
