In March of this year I experienced my first genital piercing. Out of the 20 body piercings I have, this is the only one, which actually serves a purpose besides being a spiritual experience for myself.

Genital piercings have always been something, which I have been interested in. I had been considering getting a genital piercing for some time but did not proceed with the thought due to the fact that I had been in a relationship with someone who is pretty much against them. Out of this type of piercing, a curved barbell in my hood vertically had always been at the top of my list. Being an artist, I have always found vertical hood piercings to be aesthetically pleasing as well of hearing of their purpose sexually.

My interest in this piercing became serious when I had a discussion with my current significant other of my desire for it. Only having one piercing himself (a Prince Albert), Alex informed me that he would have absolutely no problem with me getting it done. It was soon after that I made an appointment at Body Work Productions with Derek to get it pierced.

Derek Lowe has become my sole piercer at this point in time. He has re-pierced my right nipple and septum, given me a madison twice, two helix to rook industrials, and tapered some of my other piercings numerous times now. I felt completely comfortable in trusting his capabilities of performing this piercing and to modify my body in this way.

Despite my lack of nervousness, there was still a knot in my stomach when Alex and I walked into Body Work Productions on the day of the appointment. I was greeted at the studio with the smiling faces of all my friends however, nothing seemed to be able to calm my nerves. I filled out the paper work, chose a 12 gauge curved barbell to be the initial jewelry, and paid at the counter before proceeding to the waiting room where I chain smoked and chatted with Alex while Derek was preparing to pierce me.

After what seemed like ages, Derek appeared from the back and informed me that he was ready when I was. Alex opted to stay in the waiting room while the procedure was done so I followed Derek alone back to his private piercing suite. After some chit chat about how each of us had been doing since my previous visit, Derek left the room so that I could remove my pants and underwear. My nerves settled slightly as I disrobed and had some time to myself. Mentally preparing myself for a piercing has always been difficult for me but I find the more I get pierced, the easier it gets.

Upon Derek's return we chatted some more while he prepared his work area and explained the basics of the piercing to me. He then told me that not all women have appropriate anatomy for a vertical hood piercing and asked if I would opt for a horizontal one if that were the case with me. After some consideration I agreed. As it turned out though, a vertical one would work quite well so Derek left briefly to retrieve a 12 gauge curved barbell for the procedure.

When the suitable jewelry was found, the time for the actual piercing had come. It was as he began to clean and prep the area that I started taking my deep breaths and concentrate on what modification was actually going to be done to my body. Derek had me lay back and rest me legs on his knees for the piercing. I felt him position both the needle and receiving tube as I attempted to relax and stay calm. He had warned me ahead of time that it is many women's reflex to "jump" or jerk back on the insertion of the needle. Being aware of this I tried to stay calm, and STILL as I mentally prepared myself for the sensation of being pierced. Not being a stranger to my habits when I am under the needle, Derek has almost learned how to tell when I am mentally and physically ready for the actual insertion of the needle. He announced that he was ready and after a few more deep breaths, pushed the needle through my skin. The pain was nothing. A slight pinch at most. Derek was right though. I felt myself jerk back almost uncontrollably as the needle went through my skin. Jewelry insertion went easily though. I didn't even feel the barbell go in.

Giving me a moment to lye back and relax, Derek took a look at his handy work. Being pleased, he handed me a mirror to see for myself. I was truly impressed. It looked beautiful. My dream of having a vertical hood piercing had come true.

When I felt I had had enough time to fully recuperate, Derek left the room again to let me re-dress myself. As I was putting my clothes back on, I had time to reflect on what had been done to me. Time to think about what I had just endured. I was very pleased. When finished, I exited the piercing room, filled out the remainder of the paperwork, and tipped Derek generously. I was in amazement that I couldn't even tell that the jewelry was there.

Back in the waiting room, my boyfriend had gotten in a chat with about 5-6 people who were either waiting to be pierced, or were there with friends. They all stared at me in amazement when I walked out. They seemed to have that "Oh my god, she's still alive!" look on their face. A few asked how it was. As I answered their questions Alex just looked at me and smiled. He knew that I had just accomplished a dream of mine. He knew that this was something I treasured which I found out later is why he let me experience it MYSELF, and not have him in the room with me.

Aftercare was simple. Clean the area thoroughly and do salt soaks. Just like any other piercing. I experienced no tenderness and felt fully healed in a matter of days. It has since been about 2 months since the piercing and I have had no bad experiences with it whatsoever. I have treated it with respect like all of my piercings and it has been a pleasurable addition to my body in both my boyfriend's and my own perspective. I would highly recommend this piercing for any women considering it. Body Work Productions also comes highly recommended in my book for any body modification work needed to be done.
