I had been toying around with the thought of getting a genital piercing for sometime. My last piercing was my Lebret, and that was too easy... I wanted something that was a bit of a challenge. I hadn't gotten the courage to do it when I was in Seattle this past summer, and there is no way that I was going to trust my favorite body part to our local tattooist/piercer. (If you can call him that!) So I plotted that I could do it while I was in Amsterdam on vacation.

We had wandered into Body Cult, and asked for the tour, you know, so we could check out the place for cleanliness. She decided that she was gonna get her nose pierced, and I decided that I was gonna go for it... Not sure if it was the whole free feeling you get from being in the Nederlands, or the comfort I got in the parlor, but I was ready.
Before I got pierced I looked at some pictures of other people's genital piercings, and got all excited. I decided that I was going to get the horizontal clitoris hood piercing. Gaby, my piercer said that this was one of his most common piercings that he performs. That surprised me somewhat, but I was relieved to know that he wasn't dealing with foreign territories.
He had me take off my pants and underwear, and he put on a doctor's table... I felt like I was at my gynecologist's office. I even had the blue paper sheet thing. Not like I needed to be covered anyways, he was gonna see it all. While he was preparing the needle, and piercing jewelry, he explained to me the procedure. He was going to use the clamp (we are all familiar with the clamp) on the skin over my clitoris, and use this machine thingy to flash light through the skin to see if there were any veins, so he could miss them during the piercing.
Well, I am feeling very naked at this point and he tells me that he has positioned everything, and would pierce as soon as I was ready. I began breathing as if I was in labor, big inhale, and loud exhale. A trick that I had learned to control pain. I told him I was ready. The needle sliced through my tender skin, and there was a moment of pain. Not as bad as I had expected though. Not as painful as getting you finger caught in a door. Actually I think that my tongue getting pierced hurt more. I could feel blood running out of my new wound. Gaby slid the hoop through, and gave me a paper towel to control the bleeding.
I spent the next few minutes walking around the sealed room with no pants on, kinda in shock. You all know that feeling, the rush of adrenaline that kicks in after a new piercing or tattoo. He gave me a hand mirror to check out his handy work. I was definitely impressed with him, and myself. I could hear Emily yelling at me in the hall.
She said, "Um, you aren't saying anything... Are you going to be okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. Don't even worry... Just tromping around with no pants on! Are you gonna do it too?"
"You think I should do it?"
"Definitely! If it fell out in a month, I would do it again!"
So, after the room was cleaned up, my pants were on, and Em's were off! She had basically the same experience. Not as much bleeding though. Even our rings match! Talk about bonding! That is an experience that we will never forget.
And just so you guys know... The aftercare was so simple, wash with antibacterial soap at least twice a day. The best thing though, was that there was no sourness after. My tongue was sour and tender for months after I got it pierced! My hood healed completely in about a week and a half. I would definitely do it again... And I just might. I really enjoy having a new toy in my favorite place of my body... and my boyfriend is impressed with me too. He definitely admires my ballsiness in the situation. I like the ring's position because it rubs right on my clitoris. Which is the best!
I recommend this piercing for anyone who would like to try it... And here are a couple of questions that I get asked a lot about my hood piercing.
Q: How does my pee or my period effect my piercing?
A: You body is sterile to yourself, so unless someone else is peeing on you... You don't have much to worry about.
Q: When can I start having sex again?
A: The very night you get it done... The most important thing to remember is cleanliness though. Wear condom, and make sure that you wash with antibacterial soap afterwards.
Q: What are the chances of not having any feeling afterwards?
A: I am not a doctor, but I will reiterate what I was told. Piercers very rarely pierce the actual clitoris anymore because about half of the women who do it lose some sensation during stimulation. Piercing the hood does not effect the clitoris in anyway, other than giving it something to rub against. Like other piercings, you body will eventually get used to have a ring there, so you could always change the gauge, or type of ring.
