Healing and Aftercare
Note that healing times will vary from person to person and that there are many valid methods of aftercare -- just because your piercer has a different procedure doesn't mean that they're wrong.
Jewelry Options
- Length of healing:
- Healing usually takes a month or two at the most. Sexual activity is usually resumed within two weeks, often less.
Basic Aftercare:
- Wash your hands first! Wash the piercing and surrounding area with antibacterial soap. Gently soak away (don't pick) the crusties. Lather and rotate the soap through the piercing once you have all the crusties off. Let it soak for about a minute and then thouroughly rinse.
Also:
- Urinate after cleaning to make sure you didn't get any cleaning agent into your urethra.
- Clean piercings after sex, and use a condom.
- Direct oral contact should be avoided.
- Some lubricants and spermicides may irritate the piercing.
- Soaking in Epsom salt water will draw bacteria and discharge out of the piercing and speed healing.
F.A.Q.
- Rings or curved barbells in 10ga or larger. Your piercer may offer you 14ga or 12ga but almost everyone agrees that it must be 10ga or larger to be comfortable for both the wearer and their partner. Length is determined by placement. Rings are usually 5/8" to 3/4". Too large will flip about and be quite uncomfortable. Too small will pinch. It should fit snugly without pinching when erect.
- How much does it hurt?
- It doesn't hurt much at all (comparatively). It is one of the least painful male piercings.
- How does it feel?
- Many people swear that the PA changed their sex lives and restored their youth!
- Does it matter if I have a foreskin?
- Unless you have a very tight foreskin it won't make any difference.
