In April of 2000 my girlfriend and I went to Urban Art Tattoo Studio in Mesa, AZ. I had several piercing already by then and had seen pictures of the p.a. in tattoo and piercing studios. I had been thinking of getting one for some time and really wanted that piercing but was too afraid to get it to be honest. So we went in and were looking at all of the photos they had of male genital piercings. Even though I wanted the prince albert I decided to get my scrotum pierced instead. I kept thinking about it though and thinking how could I do something like that to my penis. I mean what if something went wrong. I kept thinking of all the bad things that could happen as a result from getting this piercing. I guess the fear of what if I fuck up something that is an extremely important body part to me and how it could effect things that go with it, kept me from getting it done then. I couldn't bring myself to do it. I needed more information. I didn't know anyone that had it done that I could talk to about it and didn't feel comfortable enough to bring it up, and ask questions in piercing studios.

It has been several years since the day I got that piercing. My desire to get a prince albert piercing though hasn't changed at all, it has only increased. I recently came across bmezine.com and was checking it out, and found the pages that had different peoples' experiences with the piercing they had gotten. I checked out several different ones, but it didn't take long before I found my self reading about the experiences of prince albert piercings. I want to thank everyone that has been willing to share their personal experiences they have had with the p.a. I've gotten a lot of information here that has really helped me decide that I wanted to finally go through with it.

A couple of days ago I was getting another tattoo to add to the growing list of the ones I already have. I was talking to Joe (the guy doing my tattoo), and it just so happened we started talking about piercings. He told me he had a prince albert, so I decided to start asking questions about it. It was easy to talk to him because I trust his opinions and knowledge for one thing and another he is just one of those guys that is really relaxed and laid back unlike a lot of tattoo and piercing artists I have ran into. The same day I had the conversation with Joe, I came back to this site and I read more. I decided that night I wanted to really go through with it. I decided that I would go in the day after the next.

Today I woke up and wasn't really nervous at all. I actually was anxious, excited, determined, and ok maybe a little nervous. When I got there I told them that I wanted the p.a., and they had a guy named Ben come over and talk to me about it. All of the other times I have been in there I have always dealt with a guy named Qui Qui. This made me a little nervous, but the guy was pretty nice, so between the excitement, and determination that I was feeling, it kept me from getting too nervous.

He led me to the room where the piercing was done. I asked about doing a reverse p.a., but he recommended the regular p.a., so we went with it. The next thing we talked about was the jewelry that he was going to use. He said he was going to put a 10gauge hoop in, which I was happy with, because from what I've heard and understand 10 or smaller is more comfortable. I read one person's experience that told about being pierced with a larger gauge then having a smaller gauge piece of jewelry put in so it wouldn't bleed. I talked about this with Ben and he said he would pierce with a 10 gauge and put an 8 gauge hoop in, and agreed that it wouldn't bleed. So far it hasn't either. Also I'm very happy about the fact that he put a 8 gauge hoop in instead of the 12 gauge hoop that from what I understand is what is normally used.

Once we got all of that out of the way he explained after care instructions as he got everything ready. Then next, he tells me to drop my pants and drawers, and hop up on the table. I obviously knew that this was coming, but still was weird hearing that come from a guy. I dropped them to my ankles and hopped up on the table, and I almost think that that was the worst part of the whole thing. Anyways, I laid back on the table and then he cleans the area that is to be poked. He next inserts the receiving tube. It did not feel good obviously, but wasn't unbearable. The tube part seemed to last longer to me then the rest of it. Once he got the tube in place, it was "Go Time". It was a really quick stick that was painful but only lasted a second and then it was over. When he put the jewelry in, it seemed pretty quick and wasn't too bad. It was a little tight, but I expected it to be that way considering the hole that was pierced was smaller then the jewelry he was putting in there. Once again it was over pretty quickly, and then that was it, all done. The whole thing was so simple and easy compared to the anxiety I felt when I first thought about getting it. I'm so glad I did it. Ok! So it took me a long time before I got to the point where I was actually ready to do it, but I'm so happy with it. My experience was excellent.
