As always, it is recommended that you go to see a professional piercer versus doing it yourself. This was a personal decision and I don't support or recommend doing a piercing yourself unless you are a professional.

I've had the supplies for months, but never got around to it. Recently, I did some extensive research on the piercing and prepared myself for the procedure. There were various reasons I decided to do it myself; the greatest reason was that I hadn't done any of my own piercings. I have large lobes, a big septum, a bridge, navel, and nipples... as well as some retired piercings, but I've never done my own. I thought that this would be the best choice since I wouldn't have to worry about looking in the mirror to perform it.
Earlier this year, I purchased needles and EMLA cream from bmeshop.com. I heard mixed information about the cream being used in the urethra. Before I even attempted the actual piercing, I tried the cream on the outside, and putting a tube inside. I couldn't handle the feeling of the tube, so I checked up on the EMLA. I found that it would be okay to use a little bit on the inside in direct contact with the "genital mucosa." At this point, I knew the external application would take care of any pain and the internal application could get rid of the sensation of the tube. I decided to use EMLA, only because I felt it would allow me to concentrate on the piercing, and to not be bothered by any discomfort.
So the time came around for the piercing. Waiting for the anesthetic to set in was the hardest part. I decided to apply it at the top of the hour, and leave it on for two half-hour TV shows. I sat at the computer chatting and watching television, and once the second show was over, I went to apply the anesthetic inside the urethra. This part was most definitely interesting. Unlike the external application, the EMLA affects the urethra instantly. I lightly coated a q-tip and slit it in about ¾ of the way. I read that all that was needed was about 5 minutes, so I left it on for that amount of time.
When the EMLA had penetrated internally and externally, I went down to the bathroom and washed the outside. I then urinated to clean out any EMLA left over in the urethra. I dried it off and went back to my room. I sat down and already had everything laid out on a towel. My tattooist runs my jewelry through his autoclave so everything was very clean. I put some KY Jelly onto the towel and twisted the needle and receiving tube into them to make sure there was plenty on them. I put the tube in and tipped it up so that I could see where I would be placing the PA. Once it was lined up, I slid the needle through. Obviously there was no pain involved because of the EMLA, but I did run into a slight problem. As I was putting the needle through, it went in fine... but the tube slipped out. I didn't want to do a lot of damage to the urethra by driving the needle into it trying to get it to come out the end, so I paused for a moment. I opened one of my taper packages, (8g, same size of the needle and jewelry) and lubed it up. I backed the needle out and slid the taper in. Oh... on a side note... penises bleed like a motherfucker when punctured...
With the taper though... I followed it with the jewelry. The blood wasn't bad, but it did make it a pain to snap the ball on the CBR in. But after a couple of tries, I snapped it in place. I was done and was really happy with the way it had come out. It is nice and straight, and I'm sure I'll have plenty of room to stretch it as I am hoping to. I immediately went down, took a shower to clean up, and disposed of everything. I recommend that if you're going to pierce yourself at home, wrap your needles when you're done. Don't just throw them in the trash. I like to put them in duct tape and fold them in. Then wrap a couple more pieces around it to make sure there is a decent layer between the needle and anything that may come into contact with it. That way it eliminates the hazard of yourself or someone else pricking themselves. Other than that, I'm very happy with it, it's day two... so I haven't "put it to use" yet, but that will come soon. Maybe I will follow th is up with an update on how it is. For now, that is all. BE SAFE.
