I have had this piercing now for over six years and have enjoyed every minute of it. There are plenty of descriptions of the actual piercing procedure here so if you are thinking about getting it done read them, this story is about my journey from the little 5/8th inch 12 gauge CBR that I started with (and almost immediately tired of). To the 0 gauge 1" horseshoe barbell I wear now.

After the 8 gauge loosened up I started to wear both the 12 and the 8 together. Apparently this practice is frowned upon by the professionals in the field, Oh well it's my dick. Next up I purchased a 1" long 4 gauge straight barbell and wore it for a couple of years.
During this time, the wife continued to complain that the piercing pinched on the way in and if I wasn't careful would ruin the entire experience for her. Therefore a routine part of foreplay would be for me to take out my jewelry and do without. Only during masturbation would I really get to enjoy my adorned member. Then about a year ago, the bug to stretch bit once again and I bought a 2 gauge 3/4" CBR. The problem by now was that as many of you know, a 2 gauge doesn't flex at all and the jewelry bead could not be removed without pneumatic tools, a fire department, and serious risk of major pinches. Problem. Solution, 10 mm acrylic beads from a shop that sells necklace making supplies. Each bead would conform enough to be inserted maybe a dozen timed before getting too worn out to stay in place. This was good, the beads were fairly cheap, I could change their color weekly, and the wife started to really enjoy the sensations during intercourse. As one american auto maker says in it's ad campaign "wider is better".
Not long after purchasing the 2 gauge, I bought a 0 gauge horseshoe curved barbell. I was fixated on this new piece. It weighed more than all my other pieces of jewelry put together. I worked at stretching actively now. I purchased an acrylic horn that went from a point to 0 gauge. I wore this for eight to sixteen hours a day for a week and then one day in the bathroom at work I inserted my barbell. This is where the sensations got intense, even the 2 gauge had inserted with no effort or sensation of tightness. Now though, it was as if all my nerve ending focused at this one point at the head of my dick. I don't think I heard anyone else for the rest of the day over the blood rushing in my ears, this was an intense sensation. Best of all, my wife really enjoyed the new piece. She is a little nervous about it however, and does not want me to go any larger. Larger will be difficult as urinating occurs under high pressure now. Sitting to pee is petty much required n ow as well.
I don't know what is next, I really want to continue the piercing up through the head and complete an Apadravya. The wife is not keen on this idea however and will require extensive convincing. I have also started playing with stretching my piercing even further, just for giggles. I can now pass a sharpie marker through the piercing pretty easily and out my urethra with extreme difficulty, but the sensation! It must be tried to be believed. I have been asked by some of my close friends (those who know about my mod) why I would want such a large piece of jewelry. I can only say that I find the sensation to be enjoyable, the added weight of my monster chunk of steel really makes my cock swing when I walk. I suppose I am something of a weight freak and I do want more, my next stop is a 00 gauge which weighs even more.
Overall this has been a very enjoyable piercing and for those of you who are on the fence about whether or not you want one, do it and for those of you who want more out of your PA, go large and get to at least a 2 gauge, this piercing is meant to be a big one.
