I'd been wanting a Prince Albert for several years now, it was the first piercing that I'd wanted but I was not sure if I should go for something semi-permanent for my first piercing. Therefore, over the years, I had my nipples and navel done to see if I could get on with piercings.

I have had all my piercings done at the same studio where I live and to add to the experience I thought that I would travel from the Channel Islands to mainland UK to get my Prince Albert. A friend recommended Flux Body Piercing to me and I made the trip.

I went for my Prince Albert shortly after lunch on a weekday, so the studio was not busy and I was served straight away. Flux is a simple two room studio a large shop area and a smaller room at the back.

I introduced myself and spoke with Claire, who I'd e-mailed previously. I read through and signed the waiver to state that I wasn't on drugs or completely drunk. You might think it strange but I refused to use the de-sensitising spray. I felt that I would be missing out on a part of the experience and in that way cheating myself?

The room where I was going to be pierced was small, but immaculate with a large doctors bed/couch (sorry don't know the proper name) dominating the room. This put me at ease and though-out the procedure I did not have any concerns regarding cleanliness. I didn't find that taking the necessary clothes off was too much of a problem, there a was a little embarrassment, but I'd spent the whole journey there convincing myself that there was no point in going through with it if I was going to let this be a roadblock for me. The only real embarrassment was that my penis decided to go into self-preservation mode and shrink back – but there would be no escape.

Claire cleaned my penis with iodine and explained that later this might appear to give it a yellow tinge later but it was nothing to freak out about. Next, she marked the spot and because I have not been circumcised, I needed to choose to go on the left or the right side of the piece of skin that connects the foreskin to the head of the penis. I chose to go the left as I normally always pick right in a left right choice and I wanted a break in the norm.

Claire warned that the receiving tube might feel a bit uncomfortable when its being inserted and I did feel a bit of a scratching sensation but I wouldn't say that it was painful. Two deep breathes in and out and then, I would be pierced. It hurt not as much as my nipples, it was a softer, not as harsh a pain, but it definitely hurt.

The worst part of the process though was the inserting of the jewellery. It seemed to take an age and was very uncomfortable and painful. I nearly leapt up halfway through it was that bad. I didn't notice the ball being put in place, I was on a bit of a headrush and looked down – I have a Prince Albert!!

I was a little surprised to note that there was no blood but as a precaution, my penis was wrapped in a paper towel and then a rubber glove was placed over the top and secured with a rubber band to stop it falling off or coming loose.

After checking I was ok, Claire ran through the aftercare with me. Once of the most impressive things was the aftercare pack with included an A4 typed sheet, a small packet of sea salt, a small sample of anti bacterial soap and a sticker (yippee). The aftercare was something that I was already comfortable with from my previous piercings. The anti bacterial soap was not something that I've used previously, the sea salt soaks on my other piercings have always provided very good results and I understand that the anti bacterial soap is to be used after the first week as it might be a little too much on a new piercing.

Walking around afterwards was not particularly uncomfortable, if I knocked it or brushed against something, then I got an immediate reminder. The whole first day felt like a caffeine rush, it was a nice feeling and later in the evening, once I'd taken off the wrapping it felt good to sit and stare at it.

Cleaning it so far has not been a problem, it's self-cleaning to a certain extent, and I've kept with the sea salt soaks.

Going to the toilet for the first three to four days was very uncomfortable; it does pass though with a little time and patience.

For the first few days, getting an erection proves to be a little painful, but again its passing and the general level of discomfort is passing and I have to say that I'm very pleased with the results. After a couple of months, I will stretch it a little and hopefully spend a good long while enjoying it.
