So it was around that time where you get the inkling to get another needle pushed through a piece of virgin flesh and as it was nearing the end of the college year, some friends and I had decided that instead of spending the evening at the pub on the last day we would each get a nipple piercing upon graduation.

We headed on over to Glamour (which is only a 3 minute drive from college) and got psyched up ready for the few seconds of discomfort associated with all piercings. After some contemplation at the salon, unfortunately I could not go through the experience with the other girls, as finances sometimes don't feel it's the right time to happen.

Fast forward 4 months into the next study year and that familiar urge has struck me again and for this time, I knew money was not an issue. Because I had no one to go with me in this instance I pretty much had to dare myself into it, and discussed with one of me classmates that if by chance we finished the lecture before 11am on this particular day (sorry can't remember the date exactly) that I would go and get my nipple pierced in the long lunch break.

As it turned out we finished that class at 10.45 so I knew this was going to happen. I headed over to the salon and my stomach was in knots (mainly because this was the first piercing experience I was going to go through without a friend by my side) but I was determined to go through with it.

I didn't need to make an appointment as it was a weekday and early morning so it was quiet anyway. I signed my life away and discussed with Andrea that I wanted my nipple pierced and we decided on 16ga Teflon bar. She cleaned up the room and we marked up my poor exposed nipple. It wasn't as uncomfortable lying there with no shirt on, probably because it was another woman in the room and that was a relief. After marking a few spots we decided it was finally right and I knew this was it, I was up for the needle.

The clamp is always the worst bit but I just ignored it and she asked if I was ready. I nodded and inhaled and when I exhaled the needle went through. The familiar "pop" when the needle exits the skin was over with, I think I managed a little ouch but it hurt a bit more than that but I wasn't going to let her see me in pain. It was bearable and honestly it lasted about 12 seconds then I didn't notice it. I had a sip of cool water to ready myself for the insertion of the jewellery. The jewellery was put in place and we were done. She handed me a mirror and I could not believe that I had gone through with this, it looked gorgeous! I paid my money and left with the saline wash and went back to class. My friend whom i told my dare was nagging me all day to see if i had gone through with it so in the end i showed him just so he would believe me. He thought it was great and so did i.

I never noticed how often I knock my nipple on things until I had it pierced. I managed to sit through the class but couldn't wait to get home to admire my new addition some more. Had no problems except a few crusties until about 3 weeks after I got it done. Because I had it pierced with the flexible material I managed to catch it on a towel one morning and ripped it about 1mm and so I was up for another trip to the salon.

I called in on the way home from class one afternoon to get some antiseptic cream and whilst we were there we decided to change it to a 14ga stainless steel bar (the 16ga seemed to be floating in the piercing and although this new one was thicker there was little discomfort only a little pressure when the bar went through). Since I had the bar changed I have had no problems at all and has healed beautifully.

Six months after I was pierced, happy as ever and with no regrets about obtaining this piercing. If anyone is considering getting this done, do research into it a little and prepare yourself for it. Take someone with you! Because it is such a sensitive area to have that support would be great, I didn't have it but I think it would have made the experience even more enjoyable. The few seconds of pain for a lifetime of pleasure... Its definitely worth it!
