A few weeks ago I ordered some non-piercing nipple rings. They wouldn't stay on for anything, but they looked *really* hot before they fell off...which led me to begin some research on the net about piercing them. I read various strangers' experiences and looked at SO many pictures, and I decided it was going to suck initially but it would be worth it in the end.

The next day my little sister called me and said my dad left me $100 when he was in town - I took that as a sign, and started asking around locally about who went where, etc. I finally decided on Bayou Tattoo in Slidell, because they've been around forever and I know a lot of people who have had work done there.
My husband and I went in to the shop, and was pointed in the direction of the piercer, who was in the process of doing a tattoo. While we waited for a stopping point to talk to her, I - being a people watcher - was checking out the other people in the shop. There was a girl getting a tattoo on her hip, and you could tell she was hurting. And some guy standing there watching who said "Man that looks like that hurts!" I'm sure she really appreciate that.
The piercer's name is Cheryl - she had really beautiful tattoo's on her face and was very friendly. She told us she would be finished in about an hour, so we ran a few errands and then went back. We smoked a cigarette and chatted with a couple of guys outside for a moment about nutria rats and some other random stuff while she finished up which really helped ease my nervousness. By the time she was finished and we went back in I was completely at ease.
She took us into a small room in the back that looked like it was probably used for storage, but was very clean, and apologized that it was the only private place she had available. ((By the way, if you decide to get a tattoo or piercing, don't let the outside of Bayou fool you, it's very clean inside and the people there are really awesome!))
Cheryl asked me to take my shirt off, which I did, and she marked my nipples with a new Sharpie, then asked me to sit. She made my husband stand in the doorway so if someone decided to come back he would block the doorway (No one did). She explained that she was using a curved barbell instead of a CBR because she did not recommend putting a ring into a straight hole that needed to heal. She got the clamp ready and put it on the left nipple (which is actually kind of a turn on for me), and asked me if I was ready. I laughed nervously and said yeah go ahead, and she pushed the needle through. OUCH! It was a sharp, burning pain but it only lasted a couple of seconds and was replaced by just a weird throbbing warm feeling. She asked if I was okay, and I told her yes, so she clamped the right nipple - which is more sensitive for me generally. She asked again if I was ready, and when I gave her the go-ahead, she pushed the nipple through on that side. That one hurt more than the first, but it was still bearable. It really didn't suck nearly as badly as I expected it to.
She talked to me for a minute as she put the barbells in about aftercare and apologized again for not having somewhere else with some privacy. She told my husband he was going to have to stay off of my nipples for a minute (yeah, I later had to call back and ask just exactly how long a minute was...he was pretty turned on by the whole thing). They were pretty sore for about 45 minutes on the way home, and then it was okay, other than a little tenderness. I ran around topless when we got home to let them "breathe" - which only got my hubby a little more worked up (but that story's for a whole different forum). Slept last night with no problems, very minimal bleeding.
I have had absolutely no soreness today, except after cleaning them - I was tightening up the bead on the barbell and my fingernail pinched the skin a little. And all day at work today I had the pleasure of knowing I'd done something naughty to myself, and had these sexy new nipples, and no one knew about it except me. At this point, having had them only 1 day I'm probably still in the 'honeymoon' stage, but I would recommend them to anyone. It's really a minimal amount of pain to have a really cool new piercing. And if you live in Southeastern Louisiana, you should really check out Bayou Tattoo - they rock!
