I had never been planning on getting my nipple pierced, and had instead preferred to have more 'low key' piercings such as my ears and nose. Then one day a friend of mine announced that she would be getting her tongue pierced and asked if I would like to go with her to watch the experience. Although I'm a great fan of piercings and tattoos, i had to back out because they aren't something I wish to watch being done, especially the tongue.

Anyway, the day that she decided to do this, I decided to be brave... I was going to get my nipple pierced!I think this was more of an idea to out-do my friend though. As much as the idea excited me, I was extremely nervous, not just because it was my nipple and the thought of it always seemed painful, but mainly because the piercer was going to have to be a rather, well i won't say old, but mature lady and the thought of her seeing my breast was scary enough. Eventually I plucked up the courage to put on my coat, go to the bank and head off for the piercing place.

Once I got there, I asked the lady whether I could get it done that day and she was happy to do it there and then. This is when the fun started. As I walked into the small room i was told to remove my top to allow the lady to apply the dots to show where the ring would be put, ( It is always better to get a ring rather than a bar, as with any piercing, swelling is very common and you don't want any more discomfort than necessary)she had put them in the perfect place so i went to lie down so that the process could begin. This was it, the clamp was in place and the needle was ready to go in, at least that's what I hoped would happen. The next thing i knew i felt a little stinging feeling which i knew would be normal, but then the needle stopped...this really wasn't helpful at that moment in time. It was at that point that the lady told me that the tissue around my breast was very tough, and the needle would have to be pushed through extra hard. I could already feel a small amount of blood and watching the lady strain her face as she pushed the needle really didn't help, but then, after one big push it was through!! I'd done it! I know i made that sound like an awful thing to go through, but it wasn't as bad as it seems, only slight discomfort but it was soon over with.

I looked in the mirror and there it was, a lovely purple nipple ring, and to my surprise, little blood :)I fastened my top, thanked the lady and paid her my money (£30). I couldn't keep the smile off my face when i got outside and decided to call my mum to tell her all about it. Of course, like most parents, the idea didn't really please her, but hey, what does it matter, she can't see it anyway right? So then I quickly ran to catch the next train to go and meet my friend and her new tongue piercing. When I got there she was excited to see my new piercing as I was with hers. She liked it so much she said she wished she'd of got it done rather than her tongue, which from what i could hear, was a much more painful experience for her than my nipple was for me. A couple of hours later i went to the bathroom and found that my nipple had started to bleed, but that soon calmed down.

One year later and I still have it pierced, only now i have a bar through it (I find them alot more comfortable), I'm even thinking about getting my other one done. I had minimal problems with my piercing, the only one being that i discovered a small spot at the side of the bar which i made the mistake of squeezing..resulting in blood. Not nice I know, but after a couple of weeks and careful cleaning the lump went down and it now completely gone. I am now totally in love with my piercing still after all this time. Not only that, but my friends tongue piercing grew on me so much that I'm going to get mine done next week :)

Basically I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking about a nipple piercing...go for it! There's nothing to be afraid of and you'll still love it in years to come ! Just be sure to go to a piercer you trust, and remember to keep the piercing clean :)
