I had been contemplating getting my nipples pierced for quite some time. I was very nervous - it happens every time I get pierced! I've had my nose, eyebrows, ears, hood, and lip ... and yet I was still very nervous about my nipples. Because, let's be honest, they're you're nipples!

I'm new to the area that I'm currently living in, and since I don't know anyone, I had to do some research about local body modification shops. I strongly recommend that you check out the different shops in your area. Make sure you're being pierced by someone that knows what they're doing. I wanted to make sure I got my nipples pierced by a clean, professional, and all-around nice person. I searched online a LOT - read experiences on BME, visited websites, etc. Eventually, I physically checked out a couple of shops, and was impressed with two. The one I went to - North Coast Body Mod - and Flesh FX. Flesh FX gave me the "low down" on the local Body Mod scene, which I appreciated. He let me know about Becky, my piercer. I was interested in having a womyn do my piercing, so I went to NCBM to check it out.

The place was really clean, and pretty friendly. They were very helpful and answered all of my questions. [I asked about the shops in the area, what made them a good piercing place, what was their experience in the field, and, of course - what was the pain factor for getting your nipples done]. The piercer was out for the day, so I ended up coming back a few days later. She only comes in two times a week, but that's because she's going to school to become a nurse. She wants to be the only piercer in the area that has a degree in nursing - how impressive! While leaving, I noticed a newspaper article on their wall about the shop. Apparently it had been recognized as a really clean and safe place to get work done in Ohio. Definitely a good sign.

I ended up doing more research on nipple piercings and felt really ready for Friday!

I went in and finally met the actual piercer. She was very nice, and she seemed like a no-nonsense kind of womyn - I like that. She answered all of my questions and seemed really confident in her work. I signed my paperwork, and she even came over to where I was sitting and read it over with me. We went into the back she just got right to work. Usually, when I've gotten something pierced, the piercer has taken their time and "shoots the shit" with me, something that Becky did not do. At the time, I wanted to yell "Hey! Slow down!" But in retrospect, I'm really glad that she just got to it. It gave me less time to freak out. She was really cool about my comfort levels, as well, and even let me hold my friends hand. I definitely needed that! After she had gotten everything open and ready to go, I lied down and lifted up my shirt. She asked me if I wanted to do them one right after another, or if I wanted to take a breather in between. I told her I'd let her know as it was happening.

Well, my shirt was raised and on went the clamps! They didn't hurt too much; it's just kind of awkward and uncomfortable. More like a pinch. She gave me advice on how to breathe - in through the nose, and out through the mouth. She said, "okay, deep breath in, and OUT!" BAM! The needle went right through. I grabbed onto my friends hand and cussed a lot! It hurt! But not near as bad as I had thought it was going to. And, a lot like my hood piercing, there was very little pressure afterward. I told her to just go ahead and do the next one, I didn't want to wait! The next one, like everyone says, hurt more! But not that much more. I jumped a little and quickly forgot about the pain - I was worried that I had messed something up. Becky let me know that she was a good piercer and wouldn't let a client who's flinching mess up her work. Now it was time to get the next piece of jewelry in. Getting the jewelry in barely even hurt, which is unusual when it comes to a piercing. Once that was done on both sides, it came time to screw on the balls (I had gotten my piercings done with 14 gauge horseshoe Rings).

I stood up and looked in the mirror - hot hot hot! I was really glad that I chose this piercing! The pain wasn't that bad, and as long as you have a friends hand to squeeze, you can definitely stand the pain. Right now (the next day) they're a little sore - it's more like a burning, similar to a sunburn.

If you're thinking about getting this piercing - do it! As long as you find a clean and professional studio. Good luck!
