Never in a million years would I even think *I* would get my nipple pierced. I have my tongue, my nose, and a few cartilage piercings, but I always thought a nipple piercing was out of my league (or at least my pain tolerance). After getting my nose done in the middle of June, I was itching for a new piercing by October. My friend Michelle was too, and she decided on her nipples. I entertained the idea for awhile, but never thought I would ever have the guts to get it done. But one rainy Saturday night, Michelle and I couldn't take it anymore and headed to Eternal Images in Milford, MA. In the shop, Michelle prepared to go first after waiting for some girls to get their hood's pierced. Finally Michelle was up. I ran outside for a smoke while she went, I didn't want to hear any screaming that would freak me out. I talked with the owner outside for a bit, about what to expect and such, and headed in. Of course, as soon as I walk in I hear Michelle - "Oh Jesus CHRIIIST!"

Did it hurt?!" Thinking about it now, not a single person can tell you exactly what any type of piercing feels like. Sure, you can get the general idea, but you won't know until you do it. I walked into the back room with the piercer and then it hit me: I was getting my nipple pierced. Up until that moment it hadn't sunk in; like at any moment I was going to be like "just kidding!" and walk away. She set everything up and I laid on the table. I kept thinking "Oh Jesus, my mom would fucking kill me if she knew this was happening." Getting over the initial weirdness of being topless in front of a complete stranger wore off with a quickness and I started concentrating on breathing. Don't forget to BREATHE! Even though it feels natural to freeze and clench up, DON'T. She cleaned, measured, and marked the placement. I checked out the markings, and the 14g barbell, and then it was time. As she put on the clamp, she warned me that they were the worst part. I thought I was off the hook since the clamps just felt like a bad titty-twister (to use the most technical term...) Yea, right. The needle going through your nipple is the worst part. I'm not going to lie. It HURT. It was a strong, sharp pinch and I felt the needle exit. It's definately unlike any other piercing I have. I didn't even feel my tongue piercing, and it's definately different than a cartilage piercing. I shouted a few choice words, which got some laughs from the waiting room, and then it was over in no more than a few seconds. She slipped in the jewelry and I was officially pierced.
If anything, the hour or two after the actual piercing is what hurts the most. The entire area feels like its on fire, like the piercer never removed the clamps. Wearing a bra after definately helps even though it wouldn't seem like it would. Going over bumps in the road afterwards is not something you want to experience without a little support. After that, Michelle's sister got her naval done for her birthday, then we paid ($35 for one nipple, and $40 for the naval, which is *extremely* reasonable compared to most places around here)and left. We kept it low key, took some Motrin, and by 12:30 - 1a (I got the piercing done around 9:45) I felt a lot better. The owner of the shop said "it takes a lot out of you", and I thought she was kidding. She wasn't. This is the only piercing that I felt absolutely exhausted after the initial adrenaline (which was amazing) wore off. It's now around two a.m. and I barely notice it's there except for the occasional twinge of pain when I move a certain way.
I can already tell this will be one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, piercing. If you want to get your nipple(s) done, defintely go for it. It's cute, private, and the pain won't kill you. In the end you will love it. And if it's possible, make sure you have time (a day or two?) to chill and get used to the piercing. While it's healing, this is NOT something you want to knock around or get things caught on. And if you're in the area, go to Eternal Images in Milford, MA. They are one the few places that doesn't over-charge, doesn't make you feel inferior if you aren't covered in tattoo or piercings, and are genuine down-to-earth people.
