I had decided to have my nipple pierced about 6 months ago, but I was going to have it done as an 18th birthday present to myself. But I couldn't wait any longer, so I had it pierced not that long after my 17th birthday. I couldn't decide which nipple to have pierced, or what jewellery to have it pierced with. My boyfriend helped me out with the decision, telling me that my nipples were so small that a ring would look weird, and that he liked my left breast too much to not play with it at all for 3 months. So, it was set – I would have my right nipple pierced with a straight barbell.
At A Glance Author jilly bean Contact vampyre_peaches@hotmail.com When A week ago Artist Ryan Studio The Belly Bar Location Canterbury, Kent, UK I decided to get pierced in a little shop in Canterbury called the "Belly Bar", which was strange because all my other piercings had been performed at a studio in my hometown called "Metal Guru". I trusted the woman there, and didn't really know whether I would be pleased with the results if I went to a new piercer. However, my boyfriend had had his eyebrow pierced at the Belly Bar a few weeks earlier and we were both VERY pleased with the result. So I went along to the studio with my boyfriend in tow, he was there to hold my hand.
As I paid for the piercing and filled out all the relevant paperwork I started to get really nervous, I could see the pen shaking in my hand! The woman behind the desk told me that I was in good hands and that Ryan would be piercing me, she asked if I was okay with a man piercing my nipple and I said yes. I was led upstairs by Ryan, a young guy who looked clean and professional, he had lots of piercings and tattoos himself and he seemed to care about my piercing a lot. He ran me through the process and through the short version of the aftercare. Then he made me watch as he opened up a new needle and pair of clamps. He had me stand up straight while he marked up my nipple and had me take off my bra and top, I didn't feel nervous at all because he was so professional and didn't seem to be bothered about seeing my boobs – mind you I expect he sees many nipples everyday! The studio was really clean and was set up in an organised manner, i could see all the certificates showing that Ryan was a qualified body piercer on the walls. He talked to me, making me feel relaxed and he seemed like a really nice guy. I was totally comfortable with him, and i didn't feel as nervous anymore!
I laid down on the table, and Ryan clamped my nipple. He explained to me that the clamps can feel very uncomfortable, and that many people think they are the worst part of the piercing. I agree with this! He told me to take a deep breath, and then a long, steady exhale.I had to grab my boyfriend's hand at this point, because my nerves suddenly came back to me. On the exhale Ryan pushed the needle through, taking care to line up the dots on each side, making sure the piercing was straight and even. The pain was very sharp, but lasted only a second or two. I have to admit I was surprised at how long it took for him to pierce my nipple fully, but I know that if he had rushed it then it might not have been straight. My nipple went numb pretty much straight away, but I was so aware that I had a nipple all of a sudden that I felt a bit uncomfortable.
Ryan inserted the barbell with ease and then cleaned me up (I had a little blood on my nipple), he ran me through the extensive version of aftercare and said goodbye. I left the studio feeling happy, proud and a little excited. My boyfriend loved the result, and so do I. The swelling hasn't gone down completely yet but the piercing looks great! It is straight, totally in the centre of my nipple and suits me well. Everybody who has seen it thinks it's "cute" or "adorable". I am considering getting my other nipple pierced. And if I do, I will definitely be going back to Ryan.
My advice to anyone who wants to get his or her nipple pierced is – GO FOR IT! It doesn't hurt as much as you would expect, if at all. It looks very nice on all variations of nipple size and colour and it is easy to care for. Don't get scared about the pain, if you want it done then make sure you go to a good studio, piercer and are ready for the sensation. There is nothing bad I can say about this piercing.
