I have my navel, ears, and tongue pierced and I had always thought about getting my nipples pierced but I was never brave enough to do it. I had seen a few people get their nipples pierced and I just never thought that I could tolerate the pain. So I did some research on BME and on a few other sites, talked to some piercers and left it to be on my ''to-do'' list somewhere in the far future. I heard that it could affect breastfeeding and nipple sensitivity... I also heard some horror stories about infections and all that so I thought I would just wait and think about it some more.

So my friend Erica and I went down to Hollywood to Atomic Tattoo, where I had gotten my tongue pierced and I was disappointed to find out that my piercer had moved back to New Jersey. He was an awesome piercer and not to mention pretty hot. So this was a bummer! So now Erica and I had to find a new place! Erica suggested California Tattoo because she had gotten a tattoo there before and she said it was a reputable place. I walked in, I saw a bunch of smoking accessories and belts and leather jackets, I looked at some tattoo designs. After I stopped stalling I went to find the piercer. I talked to the piercer, T.J., who was very friendly. When I got my navel and tongue hurt, I felt no pain so I was confident that I would be okay this time. I calmed down a little. I told him what I wanted done so we filled out the necessary paperwork. They didn't even check my I.D. which I was kinda bummed about because I am finally eighteen! I started shaking as he and I were deciding what kind of jewelry to get. I chose curved barbells, I was too paranoid about rings getting caught on something. So I paid the cashier and headed upstairs to the piercing area.

My friend Erica was holding my hand and I was so nervous, starting to feel a little queasy. I watched T.J. pick out two 14 gauge needles and a new clamp, and he was cleaning the jewelry. He said, "Now take off your shirt and bra and stand up for me with your feet shoulder-width apart" he marked my nipples and I must confess, I was a little self-conscious with him staring at my nipples, but I figured that he had seen a million sets of nipples.

He was a professional. So he had me sit down and he took the clamp and the first needle out of the packages. I thought seriously about chickening out. He said, "Now spread your legs a little bit so I can get close enough to pierce you"...so I did what the man said and he said, "Look, shirt off and legs spread and I didn't even buy you dinner"- I was glad that he had a sense of humor, it took the pressure off a little. After I stopped laughing we got back to business. So he clamped my nipple which hurt more than I remember, and he said, "I'm gonna count to three and I want you to take a deep breath...on three exhale". So I did as he said and as the needle went through I let out a scream. It hurt so bad! My nipple got hot. I got a little dizzy. I thought he was going to put the jewelry in to give me a minute to calm down but, no! Onto the second nipple. The second one hurt so much worse! I screamed even louder and for a second, felt like I was going to throw up. The piercer said, "Wow I don't think my ear drums are still there". So he put the jewelry in and I looked down. Newly pierced nipples.

I got dressed and stood up. I felt really dizzy. I was still shaking as I walked down the stairs. I still couldn't believe that I had done it. Erica and I went to the store so that I could buy some soda. Needed some sugar. It has been 2 days and I am pretty sore. I have been washing them twice a day with Dial Antibacterial soap, just like I did with my navel. I have also been using ice packs on them, to alleviate the soreness. I am hoping that they heal quickly and that I am able to breastfeed in the future. If you are thinking about getting this piercing, my advice is to just to go do it! If you think about it too much, you won't do it. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever beforehand so maybe it won't hurt as bad. Good luck and Happy Piercing!
