I have a tendency to get weird and random urges to get piercing, and I think its fun to turn it into a group event. A friend and I decided that in the summer we were going to go on a road trip and get our nipples pierced, and when other people heard, a few wanted to join us, but for random other piercings.. When I was a few years younger I had desperately wanted a nipple ring, and at one point I attempted to pierce it myself- but the result had way to much pain and blood and I ended up wimping out of that, which was probably a very very smart decision on my part. Finally, this summer, my day of nipple-piercing was upon me. We drove a couple hours to the piercing studio in Orillia in high spirits. But suddenly, I started feeling very nauseous as we pulled up to the piercing place (which came very highly recommended), and I immediately tried to back out, with a variety of excuses ("I'll get something else done, I swear!"), but my friend wasn't having any of it since we ha d decided to do this together, and with a sinking feeling in my stomach, I decided to just tough it out.

We made an appointment for about an hour later, and left to kill some time. One of the girls I was with already had hers done, so we pulled over, and she showed us all, to assure us it would turn out okay. We then returned to the studio when our appointment time rolled around. Another friend got her belly button pierced first, and it went fine. Then, it was my turn. I decided not to have anyone else in the room, and first, the piercer asked me to lift my shirt and bra so he could figure out what size ring I needed. Then, he drew marks on either side of my nipple to show where the ring would go. (I should point out that, oddly, I wasn't uncomfortable at all with a strange man touching my breast, which I had definately been stressing about earlier- he was very professional). Then I was instructed to sit in the chair, and the next thing I knew, the needle was going through. It was a pinch, and took my breath away, then the ring was put through, which caused another intake of breath. Then it was over! I found it way way way less painful than my bellybutton ring. My friend was next, and although it was her very first piercing ever, she laughed her way through the entire process, which really impressed me. She wanted all of us in there with her, holding her hand and watching. She chose not to watch, but squeezed her eyes shut (I had watched mine, since it helps to calm me down to know whats going on).
Afterwards, we were instructed about aftercare and how to clean it, and we paid (very decent prices, I might add!) Despite the fact that wearing a seatbelt on the way home was a bit painful, it was no where near as painful afterwards as I had expected. Of course, I did get some weird looks walking down the street with my hand covering my left breast to protect it from anything that could potentially bump into it, or hurt it. The next day was still a little sore, but by the day after that I hardly felt any pain. That was several months ago, and I haven't had a single problem with my lovely new ring since, exluding one instance where a friend of mine accidentally bodychecked my entire front, and I fell to the floor. And of course, people were constantly asking me to show it off, which is something that I had to get used to, but now I really have no problem with it.
So to anyone who is considering a nipple ring, I would really recommend it, just make sure it is something you really want and you are ready to take care of it, since I bet getting an infection in it would really be horrible. And it really does not cost too much to get it done hygenically and professionally. Since I have tried both approaches, trust me, doing it yourself if you really don't know what you are doing, is never a good idea. The studio was awesome, if you are in the Orillia area, I would highly suggest BodyCo, they were really nice and professional, and afterwards my piercer gave me some really cool stickers. Awesome!
