I had been absolutely wetting myself at the prospect of getting my nipples done. I had always cringed at the thought of it as being incredibly painful for no good reason that I could see but then I got involved with a guy who was very keen on pierced nipples and he suggested I get it done. I initially thought 'no way, no how' and then I started to think seriously about it. A search on the web brought me to the bmezine site and I loved the no-nonsense approach, the freebie pics and people's personal experiences.

I looked up documents on the web with medical advice on what would happen if I got pregnant and wanted to breastfeed. I did my research and girded my loins (or rather my tits) to go through with it. I knew I didn't want to waste any piercer's time by booking an appointment and cancelling so I thought long and hard and I accepted that there would be some pain and I booked my appointment.

I chose Sacred Spirit for two reasons: firstly there was an experience on bme that made them sound great and secondly I liked their name. On the day I arrived too early and spent a terrifying 2 hours wandering around the market, looking at all the weird and wonderful things there were there. When I entered the pristine white retail space of Sacred Spirit, the colour had gone from my face and I felt like it was the first day of school. The girl behind the counter (Laura) had multiple facial piercings and black contacts that covered her entire eye. She looked too cool to be true and I thought about what a wimp I was to be scared when she'd obviously gone through a great deal more pain and had survived and looked amazing.

They were all very professional. They made me fill in a detailed medical questionaire and then asked me to come through to the 'clinic'. Laura washed her hands and asked me to lie on the couch and get my nips erect. My right nipple was inverted and so took longer. She explained that this was due to me having a shorter milk duct on that side. She said the piercing would correct it and I'd eventually have permanently erect nipples. There was a benefit right there. By now the thought of the needles was making my heart beat fast and so I asked Laura what the pain was like. She described as being akin to carpet burn but she said it was nowhere near as bad as people thought. 'Yeah, right, you would say that', I thought.

She marked my nipples, made sure I was happy with them and asked me to ready myself for the deed. She said she'd do my right first as it was inverted and might hurt a little more. She used a scissor clamp on them which looked more vicious than it was (still no pain). By now I was gritting my teeth waiting for the excruciating pain to begin. She told me to take a deep breath and she'd pierce on the out breath. By the way she wore surgical gloves and everything (I mean everything!) was washed and sterilized.

I breathed in and then on the out breath I felt a wasp sting my tit. The worst thing about a wasp sting is the pain when the venom spreads - this wasn't a wasp sting hence no attendent pain. I could not believe that that little sting was all there was to it. I felt euphoria flood my system. "Is that it?" "Yep, now the other one." I had read that the second is more painful than the first and so gritted again but, if anything, it was better. In a matter of seconds, all pain was a distant memory. Not that there'd been much pain in the first place.

I went out beaming, absolutely beaming at having done it. I was given cleaning instructions (I got barbells - a bit more fiddly to clean than rings apparently but heal quicker). One week later I went for my check-up - everything is healing well. There was a little crusting but hey you should see my belly button fluff. I enjoy telling my mates I'm just going to clean my tits of an evening. The biggest bonus of all is that my pierced nipple advocate man was right about sensitivity - I now have three clits. I can sit in a crowded room and have a party all by myself, just through crossing my arms. Wahey!

I won't pretend they didn't ache a little about a week after but I figured out this was because the cold was making my nips erect and they were pulling at the barbell. I'd recommend doing it in summer or keeping some painkillers handy though the pain is more irritating than scary.

I would recommend nipple piercing to any woman (I think it looks and feels fabulous) and I'd recommend Laura at Sacred Spirit as a wonderful angel with a quick and pain free hand.
