About a year ago, as a late Christmas present, a good friend of mine took me to a tattoo/piercing shop to get my nipples pierced. I'd been wanting to get them done for about 6 months and was really tired of waiting around. At the time, I was only 16, but finally I found a shop for which it was legal to pierce people 16 or over. I honestly did not think it would happen - I figured either it would be too expensive, I would lose my nerve, the shop would be closed, they would have changed their rules about piercing minors, or *something* would go wrong (eventually, they did change the rule, which is why my clit is not pierced right now, but that was not for another few months after my nipples were done).

When we got there, though, the shop was open, it was the price I had thought it would be, it was legal, and I was still ready (though insanely nervous). There was a wait of about an hour and I was instructed to go get food since I had not eaten all day, so my friend and I went next door to grab some pizza, though I could hardly touch it (it was good, though, what I did have. I think the place was called Pizza Boli's or something, you should check it out).

My friend opted to wait outside while I went in and met the piercer, Matt. He was totally friendly and made me feel a lot more comfortable (though the shop had come highly recommended to me and, except for the cigarette smoke in the waiting room, I liked the looks of it). The other piercers and tattooists were really awesome, too. I talked to a few of them about different mods and stuff (one of them was very impressed by one of my cuttings, which made me feel proud), and they called me brave for not having my friend come in with me. I was careful to ask Matt a ton of questions to see if, to the best of my knowledge, he knew what he was doing. He took his time and answered all my questions in detail (and later went over them after the procedure).

I told him that I wanted both nipples pierced at 14 ga. and he explained everything he was doing as he did it (changing gloves, wiping the area with alcohol, marking where the piercings were going to be, et cetera). He opened the needles in front of me, told me exactly what he was going to do, and then put the needles through. My heart was beating so hard that I could see my left breast shaking and we joked about me being nervous. Then Matt put the rings through, and I picked out what type of beads I wanted in them.

After everything was done, I had gotten my aftercare sheet, and Matt went over all my questions again, my friend drove me back home (it was a good thing he was there 'cause I think I was shaking too much to drive myself). I was so excited that I had finally gotten them done (after about 6 months of planning) that I just wanted to show everyone. Unfortunately, it is not the best idea to go walking around topless in January.

After I got home that day, I stood in front of the mirror for what seemed like hours, just staring at my nipples. I was so elated at finally having them done, I could hardly contain myself.

The piercings healed quickly and well, with no migration at all. It's been about a year now and I haven't had any problems at all. I still rinse them a few times a week with anti-bacterial soap, and that seems to have taken care of any issues I might have had. The sensitivity has not changed much either (I have heard that it can either increase or decrease after a piercing, but for me it was neither), but my boyfriend can't get enough of them.

During the summer, I go skinny-dipping with friends, and all of them thought the piercings were pretty wild, too. It's funny, but most of the people who have asked me if they could see the piercings were my girl friends (I think only two non-dating guy friends have ever asked me, compared to about 10 girl friends). One of my friends thought they were so cute that now she wants to get hers done.

Anyway, if anyone out there is thinking about getting their nipples pierced, I would say go for it. It is a simple piercing that is relatively easy to heal, and I have a lot more confidence knowing that there's a little secret about me that strangers don't know.
