Well, for starters, me and my girlfriend had been dating for about a month or two, and on our 2 month anniversary, I took her to have her nipple pierced, which was cool, because I had never seen one being done. We got it done at Epidart and I thought everything was well done and organized. He was quick and she was in and out in five minutes. He also checked her ID which I thought was a good practice. She told me that it didn't hurt much, so I became interested. I did all the required reading, yada yada yada, and finally I decided to get it done. My big problem was not having anyone see it for a while, because my family would have killed me

So we go to this shop called Epidart and I notice that everything is clean and stuff, and very professional. I wait about 5 minutes and then we go in. When Bobby (the piercer) came in I had already spotted future body mods that I wanted on him ( IE – tongue ring, lip ring and one through the throat. He had quite a few, and I was already jealous. So he puts on the tunes, and asks me if I like them. Its 80's metal, but it was good 80's metal. I agree and I take off my shirt. He marks me and asks if it's cool. I have no idea so Jess says "yup, its great" he preps me up (very clean I might add, doing everything by the book because I did research) and it took like, 2 seconds, tops. It didn't hurt a bit, but I'm oblivious to pain anyways. He slid a 14g captive bead ring on and I put my shirt back on. I paid the 40 bucks (Canadian so that's 25-30 US) and he gave me cleaning tips and stuff, but I was good because my girlfriend had like, 13 piercings already.

So I ached a little bit that day, and when I got home and looked in the mirror, my thoughts were "holy sh*t, there's a hole through my chest. This is SO cool" It took about two weeks for it to stop being a paid in the butt, and since then its been fine. The second day after I had it done, my boss (I'm a network tech) asked my and my co-worker to move a carpet for him. It was a big rolled up unit, probably 12 ft long. I got it caught as I was setting it down just for a split second, and let me tell you, it hurt like a son of a mother. I had a few things go wrong, but nothing major. We had a big day at the beach planned with people that did not like piercings, to I took it out for like 6 hours (after only having it in for 3 weeks) but surprisingly it went back in just fine. I also played around with different rings after ruining my first ring trying to get it open. Darn captive beads.... So I bought a 14g barbell, and Jessica bought me a 14g spike ended ring. I put her glow ends on it just because I liked them more. Since then I stretched it to a 12g (I know, big whoop) and kept the glowing ends. I rarely have to buy rings, because my girlfriend has so many (anything from 6g to 16g). The only other bad experience (aside from the carpet) was going camping. Do not forget to wash your piercing when it is still very new. I went camping about a month and a half later, and forgot to wash it every day real well. Well, didn't it get all swollen and puffy, and hurt a lot too. So when I got back I had to clean it really well, and wait for it to calm down. It took about two days for it to go back to normal, so I never went without washing it again (not I can slack off because its healed really well).

So here's what I'd recommend to anybody who wanted to get it done. Make sure you know you want it done. Sure you can take it out, but that's time money and pain all for nothing. Make sure the person who does it is reputable. I've seen far too many stories here from people who had it done wrong to take any chances. Make sure the place is clean, and orderly. Make sure they know what they're doing too. If you're a first time-er don't get something crazy (I was original going to get a prince Albert but he talked me out of it for now) Do it simple. And most of all make sure to have fun with it.
