I had been thinking of getting my nipples pierced for some time now. To be quite honest, I was scared. I had heard both good and bad things about doing them, but could never get the guts to do them. Finally came the day that I did do them.

I was running errands with my boyfriend, and it just so happened that we had to go to the shop next to his cousin's tattoo shop. While he went in and took care of his business, I wondered next door. I was talking with his cousin about doing them finally. He told me that he could do them right then and there. He had time before his next appointment. There I was, no excuses. I told him let's do it.

When he took me back he made sure that he pulled the blinds so no one could see in, to make me as comfortable as possible. He had me unbutton my shirt, just enough to unsnap my bra, and have my nipples out to pierce. Then he told me that he was going to spray something cold on my nipples to sterilize them. Then he took a marker, and marked where he thought that it looked even, and had me get up and look, in the mirror, to get my approval. My boyfriend walked in at that point, and I told him that he could come back and watch. Plus, I think that I just wanted someone to hold my hand! I sat back down, and he asked me if I was comfortable. Then I asked him about people being more sensitive on one side than the other. He told me that everyone is different, but generally there is a side of your body that is more sensitive. Then, he put the clamp on my right nipple. Ouch! It felt like someone grabbing and pinching your nipple. Then he had me take a deep breath in, and on my exhale , the needle was through. Followed by the ring. I laughed. I think that that was all I could do. It really didn't hurt that bad. I surely expected it to hurt a whole lot more than that. He finished up with the ring, and I asked him to give me just one second to recover.

Then he clamped my left nipple. Finally, I think I let go of my boyfriend's hand! Had me take that amazing cleansing deep breath in, and on the exhale the needle went through. The left one had quite a bit of pain, shooting pain, down into my chest. He followed through with the ring. It was done! He told me how to clean them, and to move the ring when I cleaned. I don't like the hoops, and he told me that in four to six weeks, I could come back in, and he would change them for me. I put my bra back on, as loosely as possible, and did my shirt up, and walked back into the waiting room.

I was on my way out to have a cigarette, and this girl was waiting to get her eyebrow done. She asked me what I just had done, and I told her. The look on her face was probably the same that I had had at one point. Then, she asked if she could see, so I lifted my shirt carefully and showed her. We talked for a bit about the hype that goes along with getting your nipples pierced. I walked out, and had my cigarette, then left.

It has been four weeks since I did it. The first couple of weeks everything that touched them hurt. Especially after I would wake up in the morning, or when it was cold out. Let me tell you, it is great. I thought that I was sensitive before. When they get some healing time in, they just stop hurting. Granted when my seat belt in my car snags them, it kind of hurts a bit. But I can live with that. I am planning on going and getting the rings changed to barbells. I am sure that will solve that whole snagging problem. I am glad that I got them now. Sort of funny how people react when we are talking about piercings, and I tell them that I have my nipples pierced. Great attention getter. I think that if I would have went to someone that I didn't know on a personal level, I wouldn't have been as relaxed as I was. It helps to read things like this, and to talk with the person doing the piercing. Be educated, and it will put your mind at ease. I know that I didn't want to wear a bra for at least two weeks. One day you just wake up and they don't hurt as much. I have one other piercing, my navel, and it healed pretty fast. So hopefully these will heal just as fast. Funny how people look at you when they find out that you have your nipples pierced, and they are full of all sorts of questions. I don't sugar coat, and tell them that if you want to get it done, do it. It is not as bad as some people make it out to be.
