My name is D, and i turned 18 years old in April of 2002. I had been playing with the idea of nipple rings since i was 16, but my mother and father would never sign the consent forms required. I decided I would get them done after I turned 18, but having just got a tattoo done i lacked the funds to actually get another body mod. So i waited until my check came in from Florida International University (the unused portion of my scholarship money). It finally came in Friday and i knew what i was going to do. I was going to have my nipples pierced. I have never had anything pierced other than my ears as a baby, and second holes in my ears when i was 13. This would be a big step.

I knew this was going to hurt and I wanted to hold her hand through it. She knew i had wanted to do this for a long time and agreed easily. I picked her up around 8:30pm to head to Tattoos by Lou in Kendall, which is where i had gotten my tattoo done in april, to commemorate my 18th birthday.
I was extremely nervous walking in, despite the fact i had talked to someone the previous week and had read (and seen) as much as i could about it on the internet. I read a lot of horror stories on BME about nipples and towels- which didn't put my mind at ease.
I was greeted by this girl named Marilyn, who would be my piercer. She had piercings herself and a few visible tattoos. She said that she had gotten hers done a long time ago and explained to me that the pain would be brief, but it would be worth it. She said although hers had hurt, when she looked in the mirror she had fallen in love with having "a piece of metal through her tits."
I felt at ease with her- not only because my breasts would be handled by a woman, and not a big burly hispanic man named "Jesus", but she had also gone through it before.
I had to flash her briefly for her to judge my anatomy for what size rings she would use. She gave me an information sheet about how to take care of my piercing, and a bottle of bactine and soapy water to use to clean the piercings. I read the information sheet while she pulled out the rings and began setting up a little booth where she would pierce me. she took her tools out of a tool box- all sealed in plastic and put my rings in a cleaning solution. She had me take off my shirt and sit while she collected all her equipment. She took out my rings with tongs and put them onto a sheet of paper towel on the table. She had me then stand up and she marked my breasts, making sure they were both even and completely horizontal. I was getting more and more nervous. She sat me down in the chair and i took my friends hand. Claudia smiled at me as Marilyn clamped my nipple. Marilyn told me to breath evenly and deeply. I closed my eyes and did what she said.
Then i had a flash of pain. She slid the needle through my nipple- i could hear my audible gasp and i clamped down on Claudia's hand. I didn't cry and i didn't yell, but my eyes were the size of saucers. It hurt much more than getting a tattoo- but at least the pain would be brief. She slid the ring in (more pain.. but not as much) and let it sit. It didn't bleed. I caught my breath and loosened my grip on claudia's hand. Marilyn gave me a reassured smile and went for the next one. She told me the second would hurt more than the first- which i heard about when i read stories on the internet. I grabbed Claudia's hand and closed my eyes, and she pierced the second nipple. I have to agree- the second does hurt worse than the first. My eyes shot open and Claudia began to laugh at the wonderful faces i was making as she slid the needle through, then the ring. She finished the actual piercing and i rested, releasing Claudia's hand. I looked down at my nipples (i had not before- i didn't look at my tattoo either while it was being done- only when it was finished. I could scare myself if i watched it being done). The balls were not yet on. She screwed on the little balls and tightened the rings for both. Then she had me stand up and look in the mirror. She was right. I was in love. While neither of my nipples bleed when it was pierced, she put some gauze and taped it on because it was beginning to "spot" a little. She asked me if i had any questions. I asked her a few- like what kind of soap i could use if i ran out and about the different secretions and how to clean the crust.
I thanked her and left with Claudia, my breasts somewhat sore and feeling like i needed a fruity drink. I took off my shoulder belt (it went right across my breast) and we drove to Jamba Juice to boost my blood sugar. I saw a friend of mine there and told her what happened. She smiled and said she had gotten her nipples done as well, and talked to me a bit about her experience and not to worry. I ate and drank a little, then went home with claudia. After dropping her off at home i felt very weary and decided i would sleep. I took the bactine and soap and began to clean the dried blood off my rings. OW! What hurt more than the actual piercing, was the first time i had to move the rings to clean them. But looking at those beautiful rings holding my nipples in the mirror, it was all worth it. The only thing left is to wait the three months before i can have some fun with them.
If you're going to get your nipples pierced, think hard about it to make sure its what you really want. It does hurt, but a lot less than you think (unless you have very sensitive nipples- i don't). The second hurts more than the first. My piercer changed her gloves, everything was clean and sealed. and everything that wasn't she cleaned. She explained it to me, gave me a sheet and did everything a piercer should and more. If you don't feel comfortable in the surroundings you're in, don't get it done. Find another place where you know it'll be safe. People tell me i paid too much ($90 for both including jewelry). I'd rather pay too much and be completely safe and secure than go to some place in the Goulds and pay $40 and possibly get some sort of STD. Don't shop for price- obviously don't pay too much- but make sure it's clean. Watch the piercer and educate yourself before you go. Don't just read the horror stories, but take them into account. Something can go wrong, and ed ucating yourself and picking your piercing shop carefully can help reduce the chance of complications.
My breasts are a bit sore, but the brief pain was well worth the outcome. Next- im going to get an off-center lip ring. I can't wait and I hope i get Marilyn again. :D
