I am 37 years old and for the last 20 years of my life I've either been someones child, wife, or mother. I work full time and with the above this leaves little time for me. I have been into body mods for about 12 years now, starting with a small tattoo on my shoulder and and progressing from there. I had never really thought about piercings until changes in my life and a couple of close friends helped me to see the light so to speak.

On my 35th birthday I decided to get my navel pierced, a fighting off of the getting older blues if you will. I loved that one and from that point thought about getting more. Recently I have felt that something was missing...that I was losing myself a little more each day. These feelings brought the want for a new piercing to the front again. So I decided to do something for me for a change.

After much thought and soul searching I decided to get my nipples pierced. I then did the usual and researched on BME and various other places, both on the actual procedure and the aftercare. I knew it would be painful but felt that the results and satisfaction would be worth it. Then it was time to make the plans. With my girlfriends help we got the ball rolling.

I decided on a shop about 2 hours away which has a wonderful reputation and we proceeded from there. We went down and decided to spend the night. My girlfriend kept me busy all day trying to keep my mind off of the piercing and keep me calm. When the time came to go to the shop I was calm and collected..a few butterflys to be sure but not bad.

We went to the shop and I picked out the jewlery that I wanted. My choice was 14g purple titanium hoops. After that was done we waited and I filled out the mounds of paperwork that goes along with a piercing. Then out of the blue a close friend showed up saying that he wanted to be there for me while I got this done. That really mad e me feel special and I was immediately calm. Now it was time.

I was called back into the room and met the piercer, a very awesome woman named Brandi. She put me at ease immediately. She explained the procedure in detail while she got the jewelry ready. She then instructed me to disrobe and proceeded to mark the spots with a marker which were perfect. From there she double checked the marks and then clamped the first one. The needle and clamps were cold but I wasn't scared or nervous. Just ready for it to be done. She told me to take a deep breath and then she pierced me. The actual piercing wasn't bad, it felt a lot like it did when I had my navel pierced and it hurt more to put the jewelry in. Then she repeated the procedure with the second one. I had read that the second one hurts more because you know what to expect but I didn't find that to be the case. It felt the same as the first one. Then it was over with and I looked in the mirror and was so excited! They were beautiful! I stood there in a state of wonder while she discussed the aftercare, which included twice daily cleaning and soaking but no ointments unless it appeared to be infected. then floated out of the shop. I think I walked on air for the rest of the night. I had something for me and a new chapter had begun in my life.

Its been 3 weeks now since the piercing and they are still awesome. I can't help but stare each time I clean them. They were a little sore the first week but are just fine now. I haven't really had any of the oozing that I had read about and no redness or irritation. They are also getting to be a little more sensitive and that is an added bonus. What few fears that I had about working in retail and having them show were unfounded. You really can't tell that there there unless you know. Even under the thin sweaters and blouses that I wear to work they still don't show. I am thinking about getting them stretched up a couple of sizes when they finally heal.

Ladies, I would highly say that if you want a piercing this is the one to get. In fact, I have already started planning my next one, a vertical hood, for the near future. The pain and discomfort is minimal compared to the benefits, and if you need something special just for you..it's great! I'll fill you in on the next one I get when I get it done. I can't wait!
