At A Glance Author Shell Contact LovesLostAngel@hotmail.com When A week ago Artist Kevin Studio Epidart Location New Brunswick, Canada I never really thought of myself as a piercing kind of girl. I had my ears pierced, each twice. I thought it was a big step when I got my cartilage pierced.. by the gun! Bad decision. But I was young and stupid. I now have a cartilage piercing that runs vertical against my ear. Then I got my navel pierced, and it was great! I had begun to get addicted to piercings.
So, about a month ago, I decided I wanted a new piercing. I had no idea what to get, I wanted my tongue done, but my mother would have killed me! {She still doesn't know that I have my navel pierced!} So, I searched BME, as I do on a regular basis, and settled on a nipple piercing. I was still a little worried about some pictures I had seen of bad diseases and things gone wrong with nipple piercings.
After awhile of convincing, my boyfriend made me realize that I really wanted it, despite the risks. I had no money, however, so that set me back. When my boyfriend offered to pay for it, I was ecstatic. We called Epidart that night and made the appointment for Saturday, only a few days away.
For the next few days, I was constantly reading stories on BME and psyching myself out for Saturday. I read that Bactine was really good to use, and having already taken care of a piercing, I knew that sea salt soakings worked wonders! So, when Saturday finally arrived, I bought some Bactine and some Band-Aid foaming soap. When we arrived, I talked to Kevin and had both products approved by him!
My boyfriend and myself arrive half an hour early, so I'd have time to sit around, calm down and prepare myself. When I got there, Kevin was sitting in the waiting room talking to another piercer. He asked me if I had any questions and I told him I had an appointment and he started showing me the jewellery. Since I despise hoops in nipple piercings {no offence}, I went with a barbell. They only had plain silver ones left. But, that was no big deal! Kevin said he was going to go set up, and left us to wait.
Kevin was back momentarily and led us back to his room, which was already familiar to me, thankfully. That helped calm me down a bit. I was so nervous that I started babbling on about my navel piercing, and how he did it, etc, etc. I was so scared that it was going to hurt. I had realized that I was trying to prepare myself for immense pain, but because I had read so many stories saying it didn't hurt, in the back of my mind, I was sure it wouldn't hurt. And I realized that since I thought it wasn't going to hurt, it was going to hurt, just to prove me wrong. I also then thought that it was a bad thing I realized this. Haha
I took off my shirt and pulled down my bra. It seemed a little too easy and comfortable than I would have imagined. Kevin marked my nipple {my right one.. only one} and told me to lay down. He cleaned my nipple and then he put the clamps on {which everyone seems to think hurts.. but they don't!}. I was then asked if I was ready. I said yes, and grabbed on to the arms of the chairs and held on very tightly. I also closed my eyes. I couldn't watch my friend get his nipples pierced, let alone watch my own! So, Kevin told me to take a deep breath in, and when I breathed out, he'd pierce me. I breathed in, and then I exhaled and felt a sharp pain, nothing major. I thought it was over. Little did I know he had stopped halfway through the nipple! I had relaxed, thinking it was over, when suddenly a very immense pain pierced my little nipple! The only reason my piercing hurt, was because he had stopped halfway through. Why, I don't know. He put the barbell in, kept cl eaning me until I stopped bleeding, and told me I could get up.
Standing up proved to be a bit of a challenge. It hurt to leave my breast just kind of hanging there. But, when I stood up, there was a nice little surprise. An air conditioner blowing right on my nipple! That sure felt nice. I just stood there for a minute letting the air blow on my nipple, while Kevin and my boyfriend had a little laugh at me.
My boyfriend and myself went out to the waiting room while Kevin cleaned up. He came out, I paid him and tipped him. We were then on our way.
Out of this experience I have a few tips for anyone who wants to get their nipple pierced:
1 – Yes, it does hurt. Expect it to hurt, but don't let that stop you from doing it! It's totally worth it!
2 – Salt soakings work wonders! They feel so amazingly nice!
3 – Don't let your boyfriend play with it!
4 – Bring some little round cotton pads {the kind you use for makeup and such} Put one in your bra in front of the piercing. It takes a lot of rubbing and pain out of it.
5 – At night, spray some Bactine on a pad and use some medical tape or band-aids to tape it to your nipple. It avoids rubbing on sheets and such. I only needed to do this for a week.
6 – Make sure you go to a good studio with a good piercer. Make sure you feel comfortable with them! I recommend Epidart to anyone in the Moncton area. They are truly amazing!
Overall, the experience wasn't too painful, and the end result was definitely worth it! I love my nipple piercing so much! I only want one, and do not feel "unbalanced" at all! Hehe Feel free to email me with any questions! I will be more than happy to answer them! AOL IM - SitasAngel
