Being a member of BME for almost a year now, I have seen many different types of body modification. I seem to be most drawn to the piercings more than anything. I have looked through the different categories of piercings and found that I was very interested in getting my nipples pierced. I thought this would be somewhat hard to ask my mom for -- considering I had to practically beg her to get my Tragus pierced. I decided to ask my mom if I could get them pierced for my birthday, which was coming up that month.

"I know you do. I guess I will think about it."
Well, the next Saturday rolled around (which was the day I was planning to get them pierced) and it was about 9:00 a.m. My mom was outside gardening when I decided I would go and ask her to take me to the piercing/tattoo shop.
"Mom, can you take me to Skeet's today?"
"For what?"
"To get my nipples pierced."
"No, what if you have kids and decide you want to breast-feed them or something?"
"First of all, I am NEVER having kids, but if I do, I am definitely NOT going to breast-feed! Will you just please take me?"
"We are not going to talk about this in front of company." (My mom's boyfriend was outside in the yard at the time.)
I decided I would go online and research breast-feeding with pierced nipples. 15 minutes later I had printed out a couple pages of information written by doctors and women with first hand experience. (Then there would be one less thing keeping me from getting my nipples pierced.) I gave the pages to my mom, but she didn't say anything. I was sure this was one piercing that I would have to wait for.
About an hour later, my friend Brittany came over with her boyfriend Oliver. Oliver was going to Skeet's also today (to get a tattoo) and wanted us all to go there together. At the time, my mom was in her room. When she came out and saw Brittany she started being really nice to everyone. I told Brittany about how my mom probably wasn't going to sign for me to get my nipples pierced. Immediately Brittany started begging my mom for me. (Aren't best friends the greatest?) My mom just smiled and then 10 minutes later she actually said okay! I went in my room and got my money and shoes. Brittany and Oliver took Oliver's car, and my mom, my boyfriend and I all went in my mom's car.
I was so nervous. I could not believe that I was actually going to get my nipples pierced. Earlier that day I was sure I would have to wait until I turned 18! I was also really scared though, because I had heard that nipple piercings are one of the most painful piercings. The shop was only a couple blocks away, and we were there in no time.
When I walked in there was already six people in there. I was happy to find out that most of them were just friends of the two people being pierced and tattooed. One girl was going to get her cartilage pierced and the other was getting the tattoo on her ass covered up. (It said her ex's name on it) Skeet told me that it wouldn't be that long, and he had my mom and me fill out all the paperwork. After the two ladies were finished, Scott (a senior form my school) came in and said he had an appointment to get a tattoo done. Skeet told me how he had forgot, and it would be like an hour until I could be pierced. He told me that he would just call me when he was finished. I told him that I would stay there with Brittany and Oliver until he was done.
Everyone who had came in our car left and went back to our house. Jay (my boyfriend) told me to call him when I was ready to be pierced. Scott's tattoo was done in 45 minutes, and Skeet told me that he was getting his supplies ready for piercing my nipples. I quickly dialed our number and Jay said my mom would drop him off. A couple minutes later Jay walked in the door. I had him go back with me into the piercing room with skeet.
This was it. Skeet had me remove my shirt and bra (which was somewhat embarrassing) and then had me sit in the piercing chair. Skeet took a pen and marked the dots where the needle would enter and exit. After he was done marking, he told me to go look in the mirror and then show my boyfriend and ask what he thought. I thought they looked good, and so did he.
I sat back down in the chair, and Skeet adjusted the chair so I was lying on my back. We had to wait a couple minutes for my nipples to stop being so hard (you cant pierce them when they are fully erect because hard nipples take on a different shape than average/soft nipples, making the piercing seem crooked). Once my nipples were perfect, Skeet put on the clamps. (They were really uncomfortable!) I put both of my hands under my body so I couldn't move my hands or arms and make him pierce me crooked, etc. At this point I was no longer embarrassed, just really scared! Skeet took the lubed up needle and put it next to the dot he made. He told me to take a deep breath, and on the exhale he would push the needle through.
I took a deep breath and breathed out....
I could feel a really sharp pinch when the needle entered and exited. It hurt really bad...but not as bad as I had expected it to.
On to the next nipple...
Once again, Skeet had me take a deep breath in, and on the exhale he said he would push the needle through. I took a deep breath, and exhaled."AHHH!" this nipple hurt so much more than the first one. Skeet took the lubed up hoops and put them in, in place of the needles. Both nipples started bleeding, but Skeet said that it was normal. He wiped of the blood, and then cleaned them with alcohol. I looked in the mirror, and they were absolutely perfect! They were totally straight and everything. I asked Skeet if he thought that I should put my bra on right then, and he said that I should. As soon as I did my nipples felt much better.
It has been 3 days since I got them pierced. The first day they were pierced they had taken a long time to stop bleeding (due to the fact that everyone kept elbowing me right in the boobs!) The first two days when I was in the shower, they had bled also. I called Skeet immediately and asked him why they were bleeding so much. He told me that it was normal and to give it a couple days. Since then, everything has been fine. I found that wearing a bra is necessary after you get your nipples pierced. One time after I had just cleaned my nipples (with EarCare), I did not put my bra back on and went down the stairs. It felt like my nipple rings were being yanked on really hard!
I would have to say the funniest thing about getting my nipples pierced is that everyone wants to see them because they have never seen them in person before. It was really funny the first day I went to school. All my friends in my section of the locker room wanted to see my nipple rings. I wasn't really embarrassed or anything, so I showed them. =)
If anyone is thinking about getting their nipples pierced, I think it is definitely something you should think about and/or research. There are health complications that can arise from this piercing such as Mastitis (click link below to view or copy and paste link)
