Ever since I was young I've always looked at body mods in a different light then most people I know. I've always found them interesting and liked the look of some of them. So obviously I got my ears pierced as soon as I could. I started with one cartilage and a lobe, and now have 3 cartilage piercings and a lobe that I am starting to stretch. The ears always seemed like a safe place, they were quite regular and not very extreme (in most cases), so I decided I would get some other type of piercing. I couldn't quite decide what I wanted, I've really like the look of a lip piercing, but my parents forbid it, and since they do provide for me it wouldn't be the wisest decision to just go and get it done.

Monday at school he showed up with his eyebrow pierced and it was awesome. He went with 2 other people, one of which got their nipple pierced. Now I thought that a nipple ring would be cool, and I decided that day that I wanted one. That evening I spent all night on BME reading about nipple rings. Most of the experiences said that it wasn't very painful, however I couldn't shake the idea that a needle would pierce my nipple and it would HURT. But I was going to get it done and that was that.
The next day I made an appointment at a studio called "Westcoast Piercing Guy". The artist, Kelly, had recently done piercing for a radio contest in which a contestant would get cash for each piercing he gave them. I thought he must be all right if a radio station would use him, and my friends had also recommended him. I went to his studio at 3:10, right after school. The place seemed very clean, smelled sterile, and was overall a very professional place. I informed him that I was here to get my nipple pierced, and we then went over jewelry options. Being a burger-flipping high school student I opted for the basic 14 gauge surgical steel ring. I was a little nervous that my nipples might be too small, but he informed me that they weren't and he had pierced nipple half the size. He then brought me into the back room and went over how the procedure would happen; he cleaned my nipple and marked it on either side. He then had me look in the mirror to see if they seemed straight, I thought they did and he checked one more time and confirmed it. I then laid down on one of those benches you see in a doctors office, and gripped the sides tightly with my hands. All I could think of was how much it would hurt. I stared at the roof and didn't even look at any of the tools. He then told me he would clamp my nipple and that it would feel a little uncomfortable, he also reminded me that the tighter the clamp was the less I would feel the piercing. When the clamp was put on it didn't hurt at all, just a slight pinching, but nothing more. I forget exactly what happened next, all I remember is the needle piercing my nipple. It didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it would, if you've ever got a purple nerpel it isn't as bad. He then slid the ring in, put in the bead and I was done.
I stood up and felt a little dizzy, luckily I had come with my younger brother and he was able to drive me home. I walked into the lobby, paid my fee, said thank you, and left. When I got home my dad asked what had taken us so long to get home from school, I made up some bullshit excuse about finishing a physics lab. I then headed to my room to admire my ring. I did so for a bit then went to the washroom to clean it. The first time rotating it was a little uncomfortable, but nothing too bad. That evening I put on a tight beater so my ring wouldn't get caught on anything, and it didn't.
The next day my nipple really didn't hurt at all, it stung a bit when I ran or moved quickly, but otherwise I hardly noticed it. Most people I knew wanted to see it and were surprised or disgusted that I had got it. One guy I know asked me how I would show off a nipple ring. I told him I didn't get it to show it off. I didn't get my nipple ring for aesthetic reasons, or to be cool, I got it because I wanted to. I wanted to go through with it, face the fear of a little pain, and just get something pierced because I like them. In fact most people I know think piercings other then standard ear piercings are gross, and joke that I have more piercings then my girlfriend. But I don't care, I like them and that's all that matters.
It's now been two days since I got it done and it no longer hurts at all, unless I pull the ring or get it caught on something and pulled. I've decided to get my other nipple pierced and will do so when I next get paid. I think I will stay away from any face piercings until I am out of high school. I'd encourage anyone who is thinking of getting his or her nipple pierced to go for it. It doesn't hurt as much as you think. And if it makes you feel better, I think they are beautiful. Well that is all I have to say about my getting my nipple pierced. It was a rewarding experience and I can't wait to get my next one.
