Well, the first time I got my nipples pierced I was 18 and that was, jeeze five years ago. It was my first peircing, and I wanted to start with a peircing that no one could see. I went to a girl that had just opened up a studio, and who I thought was a professional peircer, that had been peircing for years. However, I was wrong, because apparently I was the first person she had peirced nipples on. And everything she did made it obvious that she lacked many skills that only comes with experience. First she had me sit up to peirce me, instead of laying me down. Second she didn't even mark the peircings before peircing it. Oh! I was so naive then. Everything she had done before peircing my nipples was wrong, and I wish I had known what to look for.

So it turned out that they ended up being uneven, surprise, surprise. So after letting them heal for a month, I decided I couldn't live with uneven peircings. And during this healing process I didn't do anything special, mainly because I didn't know. I basically washed my nips with antibacterial soap everyday and that was it. But later I learned how much more I could do to help with the healing process.

A few months later I went to another peircer. And the first thing I did was look at her portfolio to make sure she had peirced other nipples, and she had. She was very professional with everything she did and the questions she had asked me. " What happened with the last peircings? How long did you have them in for?" While asking me questions, she got the sterile tray ready, with the 12 ga.rings I had picked out.She got the lube ready and the clamp. Also I notice everything metal, (i.e the jewelry, clamps, needle) were all in a sealed bag, partly plastic and partly paper. She sat me up so she could mark where she was going to peirce, which took the better part twenty minutes just so she could make sure it was even.

Then she layed me down on a bed that looked like a massage table. At this time in the procedure I always get nervous, because soon enough I will be inflicting pain into my body by my own choice.

She rubbed benodine on my nipples, clamped the first one, and asked me to take a deep breath in, and blow it out. As I blew the breath out she pushed the needle through. But this time, there was scar tissue and the needle didn't go into the nipple quite so smooth. And it hurt a lot more than the first time. I got them peirced with the same gauge as the first time, but because of the scar tissue, it hurt soo much worst. But just as I closed my eyes she asked me to take a deep breath in, and blow out, and then she peirced the other nipple.

The healing process took a little longer than a month this time. It took probley about two months, due to the scar tissue. I had crusty's that stuck to my bra for the first month. What I did this time was spray saline mixed with lavender. This got rid of crustys and I had no infection. My nipples healed nicely.

Then a year ago I got pregnant, and the closer it came to the delivery date, the more I thought I should take them out. I was going to breastfeed, and I had heard horror stories about women breastfeeding with rings and losing the ball while the baby was feeding. So I took them out. And when I finished breastfeeding, I went to get them redone, again.

The third and last time I went to get my nipples redone, I went to my best friend who is also a great piercer. Amy, looked at my nipples and told me upfront that there is a lot of scar tissue and that she is going to have to go back a little closer to the areola. So with a deep breath in and out, I had my nipples redone for the third time. Amy had me lay down as well after she had marked exactly where she wanted to peirce my nipples. I also went with a bigger gauge this time. I decided to go with an 8ga. So yes it was more painful, yet I think the bigger the gauge, the better they look.
Hopefully this is the lasttime I will have to do this. This time didn't even compare to the second, the pain was three times worst, because at this point I had even more scar tissue than before. So my advice to all those getting their nipples peirced, please do it right the first time.
