Almost a year ago I got my nipple pierced. I had wanted this done for quite a while, and
At A Glance Author Pierced Pyro Contact Pierced Pyro@bme.anon Artist Piercer Studio Piercer's "Studio" Location Cornwall, Ontario finally I decided to go get it. When I was little I wanted my ear pierced, and mom always
said not until you're 14, but when I turned 14 I didn't want my ear pierced anymore,
(although now they're both done) I wanted my nipple, but she wouldn't let me. Then one
day I asked, jokingly almost, if I could get my nipple pierced. Mom said, "OK." I was
really surprised, and I asked if she was serious, and she said "Yeah, it's not permanent, and
you're old enough you now (I was 16) , you can get it."
So that weekend I went to town with my dad and I went to the piercer's place. I
asked how much it would cost for a nipple piercing, he told me $25, which I thought was
cheap, but hey, I like a good deal. He asked me if I had a ring yet, and I didn't so I had to
go to another store close by where they sell jewelry, which I also found odd, but I went to
the store and bought the ring. I went in the store and told them I needed a ring for a nipple
piercing, I had no clue what I needed, and they weren't sure what size to give me, so I told
them that the piercer said the same one as navel piercings, so they gave me a 14 ga. CBR.
The other choice was 16 ga. which he used for eyebrows. I must say 14 ga. looked really
big to me at the time, not having anything pierced yet, I was thinking, "that's awfully big to
be in my nipple" but I bought it and went back to the piercer.
We went in the back and I sat down while he got stuff ready. I lifted my shirt and
he marked for placement, then put the clamp on. He said that's the part that normally
hurts, but I didn't find it that bad, and he tightened it a lot. He pierced it and I looked
down and saw the needle in my nipple, then I looked away when he put the ring through,
and I almost blacked out. It was really strange, it didn't really hurt, I didn't feel much pain,
it was just a shock, my vision went starry then black, but I didn't pass out. He gave me
some water to drink and I laid down on the couch.
Later I found out and realized some stuff about the piercer. He didn't have a sink in
the area where he did the piercings, the chair where the person to be pierced sat was just a
regular chair, no bench or reclining chair or anything, and it wasn't the cleanest place
either, but at the time I wasn't paying much attention to this, I just wanted the piercing
done. He also gave me no aftercare instructions other than wash it with antibacterial soap
for two weeks. The piercer later got shut down by the health board for unsanitary
practices, which I understand include reusing needles, but I know he used a new one for
me, because one of the things I did notice was him taking it out of the package.
The piercing was a bit deep, just behind my nipple actually, kind of an areola
piercing, but not too bad, and it healed well and lays flat. It did get infected once, but I
took good care of it and it's good now. It looks good and I really like it. Looking back, I
don't regret getting it done there just because of the good price and it did turn out well,
but if I could do it again, and had more knowledge about piercing like I do now, I would
pay more to get it done properly. I have since been tested for HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis
C, and I'm fine, but I had to make sure after that guy got shut down. The only thing is I
think I lost some sensitivity in that nipple, which sucks, but I guess that's what I get for
not doing my homework before going to get pierced. I also have friends who have been
pierced at the same place, and as far as I know no one has contracted any diseases, so the
biggest issues are bad placement and problems with healing.
I kind of did it on a whim, but not completely, as I had wanted my nipple pierced
for a while. The biggest surprise was my mom letting me get it pierced, but she wanted to
see it when I got home and was completely fine with it. She was even fairly helpful with
the aftercare, picking at me constantly, asking if it was still OK and if I'd remembered to
keep cleaning it regularly. A lot of people found it odd that I'd chosen my nipple as my
first piercing, but this was what I wanted most so I didn't find it that strange. I like my
piercing and I'm glad I got it done, and I plan on stretching it up to 12 ga. and maybe 10
ga. later on.
