An exhilirating experiance

The summer has been pretty boring. Rain, rain and more rain. Gets kind of depressing when you have to spend the majority of your time standing outside getting soaking wet (I'm a lifeguard at an aquatic park). I got my navel pierced earlier this summer and was quite impressed by the studio I went to. Jenn, the piercer, was extremely friendly and knowledgable. Also, I felt really comfortable with her. She was professional but easy to talk to. After much hesitation and debate, I decided to take the plunge. I wanted to get my nipples pierced.

I went back to Universal in Ottawa. An incredibly studio, great service, friendly atmosphere and very qualified staff. There were two things that really worried me about this piercing. The first is the degree of pain and the second being having to bare my chest to a relative stranger. I'm relatively shy... That's why I insisted on having Jenn pierce me. She's a woman and she's good at relieving the tension. Finally the opportunity presented itself. I had the day off work and I had to go to town to pick up my sister and her friends from summer school. I left a few hours early that day. I entered the studio and casually looked around trying to gather up the courage to request the piercings I wanted... Finally I just took a deep breath, walked up to the man at the counter and surprisingly calmly asked for what I wanted.

The man was extremely pleasant and didn't give me any funny looks like I was expecting. Then it dawned on me; these people probably have to deal with even stranger requests than mine every day... So then I didn't feel so bad. :) I patiently sat down for 15 minutes or so and waited my turn. By the time my name was called I was REALLY nervous. My thoughts were raging... "Oh my god, what am I doing? I'm going to get a needle pushed through WHERE!?" I entered the room and Jenn remembered me from last time I was there to have my navel pierced. She had me sit down on the table and discussed the procedure, healing time, after care with me and answered any questions I had. This is one of the reasons I like Jenn. She takes the time to fill you in on every little detail, show you all the sterile instruments and gives you the time you need to relax. I took a few deep breaths and told her that I was ready... Show time. I took off my shit and bra. All right I won't lie, I was uncomfortable. Who wouldn't be? But it wasn't as bad as what I had been expecting. I was prepared to look like a complete idiot. I had thought that I was going to turn beat read and become mute. Thankfully that didn't happen. :)

She marked both my nipples, disinfected them, asked me to confirm the locations, etc. Jenn doesn't scare you with a big, life shattering counting. You know when the needle is coming but she doesn't let the tension built up. It's just; breathe in, breathe out and while you are exhaling the needle goes in. None of that ooooonnnneeeee........ ttttwwwwwoooo........ ttttthhhhhrrrreeeeee..... BAM! I must admit, it did hurt when that needle went through. I was expecting pain but you have no idea what to expect. It's not like you injure your nipples very often. :) The pain surprised me a little. It wasn't a local pain but a quick sharp pain that radiated through my entire body. Felt rather weird actually. :) However, it only lasted for a few brief seconds so it was tolerable. At this point I was doing good, no bleeding, wasn't dizy or light headed so I told her that I was ready for her to pierce the next one. The second one didn't hurt as much as the first one, same shoting pain but not as intense. I guess I found out which nipple was the more sensitive one. :) Jenn gave me some gauze to put in my bra to avoid any irritation. I talked with Jenn for a little longer and then I was on my way to go pick up my sister and her friends.

Unlike my other piercings, these hurt for about a week. I followed Jenn's aftercare tips and disinfected my nipples twice a day with antibacterial soap. The first few times it stung but after that it was easy. I got the predictable crusties, which is a drag, but hey, it's a small price to pay for two beautiful piercings. :) I've now had both my nipples pierced for almost two months now and I adore the piercings. No regrets what so ever. At first it was a little ackward at work. I have to wear a bathing suit daily and the piercings were quite noticable you could say. :) I had this double nipple thing going on. My actual nipples and then the beads. A few people noticed and instead of looking at me in disgust came up to me and asked me questions about the piercings.

I've falling in love with my nipple piercings now. I admire myself for having the courage to have it done. I never thought in a million years that I'd be able to gather up the guts to follow through but I did. For the first little while, every time I'd go to the bathroom I couldn't surpress the urge to lift up my shirt and admire the newest additions to my body. Now I'm able to control the urge a little more, not always though. :) If you're considering getting your nipples pierced, I know it's a big step. Well it was for me anyway. I strongly urge you to do it. The small embarasment and pain is worth it. I've found that it's given me more confidence.
